Hello,

I just read an old thread about the 300zxs recirculating blow off valves and had the thought that maybe it would be possible to block off the part that recirculates the air back into the main air pipe and just have the bov's venting to air so as to get the whooshing sound without having to spend 175 quid on a dump valve kit as i am flat broke.

does anyone know if this is possible and is it a good idea or could it possibly cause damage to the car.

cheers.

Jim

After reading more info on the recirc valves i have decided my origenal question is stupid and the most i would get is a good impersonation of a goose and the best bet is to save my pennys.

my jap z has got a similar idea to yours mate recirculation side has been blanked off and theres a directional vent pipe fitted to blow off valve and no goose honk.

errrrrr..... ok im really confused now. This should work no different to any other dump valve.....right?!!!

so i tried this yestertday. i pulled off the recirculating pipes and bunged them up. it sounded like a propper dump valve!! nothing like a goose!! only problem was after testing around my block tickover became strange... after revving hard and hearing the ppphhhhssstttt, the revs fell to to nearly stalling, then up to 2000 rpm, then back down to stalling, then back up to 2000rpm and so on untill i controlled the revs with the throttle, then it ticks over fine again untill you rev it hard again)

im confused as to why this messed my tickover up (once i placed the pipes back on the tick over was fine again)

I thought that recirculating valves were the same as the valves you would buy at your local tuning shop but standard???

ANY IDEAS ANYONE????

Most dump valves include a degree of adjustment to ensure that the valves are not opening at idle. It would appear the stock recircs are partially open when in vacumn, hence the poor idle.
