As far as I know mate just a case of ripping out the internals of the cat. Bit messy but hey, does the job.

Personally I think it's a bit neater to just go to the Ginger one and hand over a couple of hundred squids for some proper de-cat pipes! wink.gif

remember to rinse through the cats after doing them as the ceramic dust can ruin the turbos. well worth doing though.

Timmy - that's what I was thinking of doing and keeping the cat's incase I get a dodgy mot inspector, but is it just the cats underneath the car?

Lack300 - what do you mean rinse through?

Cheers

Vijay

Yep, yours isn't a series II mate is it? Don't think 89-93 had pre-cats or is it the other way round?

Anyway, that's what I'd go for matey. Ring Johnny and get them from him. AndyP has them along with a few other peeps I know of.

I presume a rinse means the scraped out cat(s) to get rid of any dust or residue after all that hacking to get the internals out.

I thought 92 was a series 2. it's the newer interior and air con controls.........

Vijay

You may have the nastey pre-cats then! Ones on the Barry Manifold...not so easy to sort out but you can still de-cat the main ones.

92 is the changeover year. Some cars have precats, mine doesn't but then I don't think the imports had them. If you do have one (and it is only on 1 side, passenger I think) then it is pretty obvious if you look under the car. One side would look like a standard manifold coming down from the turbo, and the other will have a big lumpy casting on it with a shorter downpipe.

i got one pre-cats and main cats ????

not for long though lol biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

You have 2 pre-cats ??????? That's kinda wierd ... I was told that the reason that the car was dropped in America was that there wasn't space to install 2 pre-cats. The US models have 1 pre-cat, these were developed in order that cars would meet the 55 second law/rule for emissions. The idea is that there is a maximum volume of polutants generated in the first 55 seconds on cold start. Fitting the pre-cat to one side was just enough to meet the legal requirements.

Shite, are we all gonna get hunted down and Kenny Lynched then in about 20 years time by Green fuckers??? Coz of our Mad Max antics back in the early part of the century??? biggrin.gif

Nahhhh, fuck 'em! Who cares if our kids end up with webbed hands and swimming underwater for food!!! LMFAO biggrin.gif

Sorry mate for Hi-Jacking the thread!

I'd just get rid of the main ones, 200 squid odd for de-cat pipes from Johnny(GPS) and like you said before...you get a bad MOT just stick yer cat pipes back on then whip 'em off straight after you pass! Job done fella. wink.gif

get rid of them all flushing get rid of the dust when gutting them. i done mine with water. pipes off the car of course.

Vijay if you get the de-cat pipes from Johnny then I think they will also replace the pre-cat(s?) as they bolt onto the back of the turbo casting. Personally, I would not gut the cats for two reasaons, firstly you might want them one day (as you are on dodgy ground for MOT's) and secondly it has the effect of creating an expansion chamber partway down the exhaust, this may disrupt airflow.

Double check with Johnny about the pre-cat fitting before you get the pipes.

If that car does have a pre cat then the de cat pipes from johhny won't fit!!!

Best bet is to speak with Johnny about this - I think a car is needed to get the new design of pipes made up for cars with pre-cats. They've only done none precat cars so far wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

No pre-cats on mine, in fact no feline tendencies of any sort now ...

all this talk about gutting cats, I think the RSPCA have been alerted to this thread lol.
