Anyone got any recommendations for g'box work ?? I've got a crunch going from 5th to 4th over 3000 revs. Will the Redline trick be of any use or should I bit the bullet and get the 'box overhauled ???

Typical trait of the 300 manual gearbox... Redline MT90 is about the best you can do for now. Now way in the world is it worth the cost of getting the box reconned just for this reason

Don't we just love those nice reliable manual boxes !

But doesn't the Redline trick kncer the bearings.....I sliced this from AndyP's site....

"What I am doing is geting the Neo 75W90 HD gear oil(search to find web sellers) for my 5 spd. I hear that it alleviates the grind as well as the Redline MTL, but it is the correst weight of 75W90 and not the bearing killing 75W80 of the Redline MTL(and this is confirmed by not only Z32 owners and Stillen's race team, but Supra owners and Rx7 owners too). Another option is to put one quart of auto trans fluid(Redline or Neo synthetic) in place of the manual trans gear oil since it flows better and can better let the syncros work, but this may be bad for the bearings."

The crunch from 5th to 4th is a Nissan fault. If we lived in the US we would get this fixed for free, but cos we are in the UK we get ripped off big time and have to pay the full amount.

Stu, any ideas what needs fixing to stop it??

 

My box is currently under the knife - waiting for new input shaft, reverse gear, 3rd and 4th hub, and 4th ring.
