Be very carefull with your kid and martial arts, make sure when he is practicing that he isnt over extending his knee joints or his elbow joints, when they are young they dont realise the damage they are doing...( before anyone starts picking holes this advice comes from experience as I was a lau gar black belt at 13 )

I have studied many different arts and the ones I found most fun were Jeet Kune Do and Silat but you may have difficulty locating a good silat instructor, plus you might not want your kid doing silat anyway.

As Retro said. Karate is particuarly bad for overexteding elbows and knees as they like to punch out straight and hold them there, rather than 'whipping' them like boxers. Did you see Ray in St Ives/carbis bay Retro? I remember he started training around the same time as me. He's doing quite well down there now, bit of a lad but well into it. He was doing some cage fighting when I saw him last.

does anyone do wing chun? thinking of taking it up soon so any advice would be nice :)

I've done some Wing Chun (Ip Chun lineage). I'm not going to get into a debate about what the best art is, but it's definitely the most enjoyable one I've studied - Chi Sau is addictive! And you don't have to be very fit to do it either as it will automatically improve your fitness as you progress via the system itself, rather than additional fitness training.

Here's a link to the people I trained with (some good artcles there):

GKR and other flavours of karate dont do practice punches to the full extent of the joints which is better. Im a total noob, just started but im enjoying karate a lot.

check the guy on one leg on a mahjong piece! insane!

cheers guys, good advice and i will keep an eye on him, hes very strong for a young lad and i feel he could go far, altho i'd really like him to take up something like boxing to give him a bit of contrast.. but i know nowt about it so will probably listen to people who do when the time comes..

ย

thanks again guys..
