Obviously this will apply when fitting security systems to any car but USUALLY, what kind of immobiliser is the standard cat 1? Is it built into the key or is it a code you type in? Or something else?

Cheers

what kind of immobilser is it? I mean how do you as the owner override it?

but how does it actually work? do you get out the car, close the door, press a button and the doors close and its all armed?

the simple explanation for cat 1 (i hope)

you get out arm your car and its locked and immobilised

if the door is then opened without the fob the car won't start, and you have to press another button to remove the immobiliser

or if you stop the car get out and don't arm the car then again it won't start

until you first press the button to switch off the immobiliser

not sure if that was what you were after?

Thats great, exactly what I wanted to know.

"or if you stop the car get out and don't arm the car then again it won't start

until you first press the button to switch off the immobiliser"

does this mean it will arm itself automatically?

And is it common for an alarm system to NOT be linked to the central locking?

thanks

no m8 in those circumstances it won't arm itself, otherwise it could lock the keys in the car, USUALLY the only time it will arm itself is if your stood chatting press the fob to unlock the car, then if you don't then open the door within a certain time it will lock itself again

(this is also handy if someone presses the fob in the house by accident then if you don't then open the door it will lock again)

that way the alarm knows the door hasn't been opened so if you did open the door and put the keys on the seat, it WOULDN'T then lock itself

i think its a preference thing to whether the central locking is added in

most alarms are, sometimes if you get a faulty sensor on the central locking

it can then effect the alarm

Most cat 1,s will arm without locking after 30 secs if you dont arm with remote after getting out of car aswell as re-arm with locking if the door hasnt been opened and remote wsa pressed by accident or you didnt open door within certain time limit after disarming.

So if you had a turbo timer (and I won't I'm just wondering), would you arm it, but then the engine would be immobilised later after the turbo timer has run out?

Warning: the turbo timer will invalidate your CAt 1 status.

You can still get a cat 1 certificate with Turbo timer but if your insurance company finds out your insurance will be valid as far as i can make out. I think this is true evn for alarms with timer built in!

How do you get the certificate? does it come with the alarm system?
