I dunno if anyone read my post about my ideal car...

2+2

Twin Turbo

Manual

Targa

Seems whenever I think I've found a z32 I want one of them bites me on the bum. I rang about one today but the guy wasnt in. He rang back while I was caught unawares (without my list of questions to hand) but it was ok we talked a while and I asked loads of questions. The car sounded great! Then just as we were about to go he says... oh yeah its automatic.

AAARRGGG!

The FIRST question on my list and I forgot it.

Now I know a lot of people will actually prefer the auto's but I really want a manual. Or I'll find a manual and think YES! But then it turns out to by a NA.

So what would you prefer? The auto TT or a Manual NA?

Kind of a silly question but believe me it would be help and advice so any replies would be great. Thanks again

Al

(z32 owner wannabe)

Hmm..... both are good.

The TT will be faster - and probably cost more to run.

It's down to you really.

If they were both in identical condition otherwise, I'd take the TT if they were nice and the NA if they were high mileage / shabby.

I had the same wish list as you mate but i had the added wants of must be leather, must be red, must be less than 60000 miles and wanted a modded car over standard, and after 3 weeks of hard searching I found it!

Red J spec 2+2 targa TT Manusl with stillen body kit

Leather with loads of extras

62000 miles and loads of bling under the hood!

ive got a jap 2x2 twin turbo manual targa, but like you took me ages to find a good one, personaly id wait till you get exactly what you want, i found loads of twin turbo autos but im glad i got the manual, i supose its just down to personal preference at the end of the day.

Well, I had an auto twin turbo, and I've now got a manual NA - and I much prefer the manual NA for the following reasons:-

1. Although the auto is the best auto box I've ever used, the manual box is a more involving drive, and thus more rewarding, particularly when twatting it round the country lanes ;)

2. The NA is less stressful to own - when on a budget like me - as it is more reliable, and easier to live with (no essential warming up and cooling down). More an every day car really.

3. Totally irrelevant to you but my NA is a SWB slicktop, so the chassis is much tighter and it handles like a dream!

I made the educated decision to change to the new car after owning a TT Z for a year or so. If it's high speed thrill you wants - go for a TT (auto or manual). If you wanna own a Z on a budget, the NA manual will still give you a huge smile.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will wait to look for what I want. I dunno why but the wish list I have is apparently uk spec but I these UK cars must be some sort of Nissan Legend.

I am wondering if I really need a twin turbo though. And the reason I'm wondering this?

I currently drive a ford fiesta and my previous car was a nissan micra.

Although 0-10 mph is only a few seconds off the ford gt I hear ;)

Here is my opinion for what its worth. how many track days or 1/4 mile runs do you intend to do? how many people on here that own TTs can honestly say that they can use the extra power they have on the road and stay safe / reasonably within the law? but, if you are after outright power then it has to be the TT.

I had a 200bhp rover 620ti and that (i thought) was well fast compared to my old metro turbo! I got bored of the front wheel drive 620 after a while but i dont think i could handle my 350bhp z with repect and in a safe manner if i hadnt learnt by my mistakes in the 200bhp rover first!

Yeah maybe 90 odd bhp to 300 odd bhp is a bit much. There's a nice NA one that I may well go for. What can I expect 0-60 from the NA manual? I read 7.5 that about right?

ps i get well fustrated as hardly ever get to use boost as my drive to work is always in too much bloody traffic! And in the wet dont even think about using boost out of corners or you just go round in circles! Fun tho!

7 to 7.5 seems average, having 300 bhp is not a problem, its all down to how hard you push the pedal down. You need to drive both, get an idea of how the power feels, I am more than happy with the NA for on the road, looks as good as a TT and sounds better.

I was looking at 200sx's before the 300 what do y'all think of thems?

sorry for the weird english. Get carried away sometimes. Better than txt spk tho innit.

Better than txt spk tho innit.

is it?

the 200 is a good car but not in the same league on the looks department, but go on the SX board and they will probably tell you different.

I agree with Suffolk there, and we're obviously not going to be biased here...

But when a 200SX used to go past I thought, 'Yeah, they're nice'

When a 300ZX drove by I'd think, '3 litre twin-turbo super car'

But it's all personal preference.

200 would be far cheaper to maintain but they are very tail happy, well my brothers was! Personal taste at the end of the day and how much you care about reliability and performance.

I had a 200SX - good cars.

Late ones are a lot newer than 300ZXs (obviously).

They're quick too.

I'd consider a S14a or a 2.2 Prelude Motegi.

Yeah I was looking at preludes too, I quite like 'em but I think it's the targa thats totally got me. I said before I like the mr2's with the t-top but they're only 2 seaters. I never even knew what a t-top was until a few months ago and now I'm hooked.

very nice. Reall shame they didn't make this car for longer, but then I guess its a lot more exclusive.

yeah mine is 1990, oldest car i have had in a while, but then i think hang on its a 90's super car, i dont care how old it is when im doing 85 in 2nd!

very nice. Reall shame they didn't make this car for longer, but then I guess its a lot more exclusive.

Made from late 1989 to early 2000, thats a very long production run :)

Test drive both and decide, then if you still can't decide then its a lot easier to convert an auto to a manual, than it is to convert a NA to a TT ;)

I suppose since a lot are imorts the production run is really 10 years. Hey did you see the 300zx that the baddy drives in kill bill? only in it for a short period but it looks cool. Funny when cars are like 10-15 years old some people tend to worry about reliability but when its a 60's or 70's car suddenly the same people don't care that its old.

But you still havent told us exactly what you are looking for in the car - looks? track performance? road performance? sound? driveability? cruising? commuting?

you will find the various incarnations of the z are vastly different beasts!
