Not me - my mate is looking at a Clio diesel tomorrow and I said I'd help.

What should I check for?

It's a 1995 1.9 diesel.

Cheers!

Come on now lads, pack it in, like I said, I do the jokes round here.

Any serious advice or I'll end up looking a right monkey's uncle.

Ensure it is RHD, the Europeans are renowned for putting the steering wheel on the wrong side!

That its not accidently got 2 extra doors and it has a Safranne badge on it? *Shiver* horrible cars.

To be fair they're pretty indestructable, i haven't seen a bad one yet matey (well depends on what your definition of bad is lol)

Did a quick google but can't find any guides, just check for any dead students in the boot before you pull off... :D

My mum had one - and fook all ever went wrong with it TBH!! It was a 1995 petrol automatic - but it's the only frame of reference I've got I'm afraid :wack:.

She had it for years and it only ever broke down once - when I borrowed it!! - and that was the fan belt had snapped.

Not particularly informative, but HTH dude :D

Check all the electrics - I had a Clio recently and hardly any of the gadgets worked.

Starter motors can stick a bit but otherwise not too much mechanically.

see if indicators work because i think the manafacture has tacken the bulbs out to save pennys because ive never seen a frog indicating, come to think of it ive never seen a frog driving either

Karen has just bought one of these on an L plate, to replace her old firsty auto petrol Pony!! The same model as you are looing at as well, 1.9 Diesel :D

Things to check would be the usual Diesel items, try for the service history (karens came with a FULL one!!), if no history then ask if the service items have been changed recently, filters etc, if he cant prove either way, probably walk away or negotiate a good price drop. As diesels require good attention with the servicing side of things!

Other than the usual stuff, cant really help you.

Best of luck,

Dave

RUST

My wife has a 96 and its crumbling away...

I know most of it is down to the previous owners care etc but worth a good check ;)

On the upside....It always starts and only replaced brake pads :)

Id buy her another as there very reliable :nana2:

check for gaps in panels, boot floor, wet carpets, wear and tear on the seats (does this match the millage?) etc

Clios are VERy good cars, my fiance' has had 2, loves them

:)
