mine was the 2 hoses at backof engine connecting the heater. thought car was on fire first time as i was in the petrol station paying fo fuel.

or the engine insullation has been removed an it was raining, my bonnet has a lovelt hase off it in the rain after hard driving

I get steam coming from under my wings when it's been raining and i pull up at traffic lights.Check your water level (when engine has cooled), and check your hoses for splits.Hope this helps. :)

i will cheers..

its quite difficult to read the coolant level from the 'dipstick' thats in it..but i have a coolant flush and replace last month so it should be ok

common mistake !

never use that to read the coolant level ..it's an overflow tank and has nothing to do with the actual coolant level.

you should always check the level in the radiator itself (when cool).

You should be able to see coolant, if not: top it up (the radiator..not the overflowtank)

cheers ..yeah i ve look at the rad cap too - can see the coolant there so must be ok..

thanks..

Are you sure it was steam? I had oil leaking onto the rocker cover and that seamed to steam - whispy white smoke. It's not too big of a fix: a little oil can make a lot of smoke. Consider this especially if the 'steam' seemed to originate in the upper portion of the engine bay.

Whatever it is, I hope it aint too serious mate. :)

hmmm whispy white smoke is exactly what it was....what/where is the rocker cover?

Up toward the rear of the engine bay. I wish I could help you mate but I aint really mechanically minded - Paul from SouthwestZ diagnosed the problem. I can tell you that mine wasn't really a difficult fix. I only thought it might be oil on your rocker cover because the symptoms you described exactly matched my experience. I thought it was steam, an issue with cooling.

Does it smell?
