Valves...

Ok ok, i know its been covered just a few times before and i tried doing a search and cant find an answer to my question..

What advantage do i have with installing them over the stock re-circs?

Do you gain BHP, torque?

I preumes they sound different...but thats all i can find out!

They'll do the same job as a recirc, all the atmospheric valves do is blow off excess air to atmosphere, the recirc ones recirculate the air back into the system, I would normally discourage atmospheric valves as they can lead to a whole host of problems which I'm sure if your mechanically aware you should know of.

I dont use the atmospheric valves, the only difference is the sound, but at max boost I get a whoosh anyway without the atmospheric valves.

If you must have some as you'll need two, I'd recomend the HKS SSQV type.

nope, shoot me down if im wrong but the general conclusion on dump valves is there pretty much for show, dont expect any bhp gains

There is no advantage whatsoever from installing DV. You won't get an increase in BHP or torque. People install them as the stock recircs can make a 'goose honk' noise especially when the standard boost pressure has been increased. Some people fit them because they just want to, they like the noise as it vents to atmosphere.

ah ok thanks chaps...

I'll stick with the stock ones then - i dont mind the goosehonk , ive grown fond of it!

do they need chaning if i start modding though - chip , boost controller etc?

Goosehonk?

I run at 1.2bar boost using recircs and not heard anything like a goosehonk, I get a whoosh.

Well ive just fitted an Apexi and hear a lot more now..standard boost .7 isnt it?

apparently having dump valves is worse performance wise as the re-circ pump the air through quicker, im not too sure but thats what im told but then again it was also said that you wont notice the difference.

I got mine cos i like them :slap:

Membership No 0780

INSURANCE GOOFA

Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

you'll get a very slight drop in performance with atmospheric BOVs compared to stock recircs. depends on how quick you can change gear tho :D :D :D

I bought mine purely for the noise but since fitting the clutch suddenly started slipping, it did som, ething.

If you really want the sound, someone on ebay is selling electric BOVs!

The dump valve was originally designed to prevent turbo stall when changing gear... You won't gain any BHP but you'll keep the Turbo's spinning and not stalling when changing gear... Install them as close to the throttle bodies as possible and you'll be fine... Better than Goose Honk!!!

.standard boost .7 isnt it?

Standard boost is 9.5psi if I remember correctly.

6/7psi is safety boost.

ooh hope im not in safety boost....hmmm

ooh hope im not in safety boost....hmmm

You should be ok. I'm guessing that .7 is in bar, not psi. 1 bar = 14.4psi

oh got yeah, well it seems to be performing excelently so i think its fine..thanks..

i'll be turning up the boost over the next few months though..going to invest in a few mods!

You get wot you pay for (usually)

If youve got higher than stock boost your stock recirc might be struggling.

You might gain a little more boost pressure with a high quality item like a Turbo smart. Make sure its easily adjutable and have it proffessionally fitted and adjusted.

Maybe you could gain a couple of PSI and a faster boost increase.

Oh yeah and the atmospheric BOV is great fun at bus stops (so ive been told)

1. Foot hard down on the loud pedal

2. Drive close to the curb (trying very hard to avoid hitting the nice people)

3. Foot off the loud pedal at exactly the right moment causing an earth shattering howling hissing wistling noise.

Boys never grow up ...its boring

Now in all honesty Ed, thats what its all about
