No this isn't another auto vs. manual debate....

My box has got some knackered synchro rings - such that 3rd into 4th always crunches, and selecting reverse is difficult. trouble is I've just been quoted £760 for all parts, labour & VAT. Does this sound a good price? Perhaps I'm just beginning to regret getting my car sorted, and should be grateful that 760 quid will give me another 10 years of reliable use..?

Does anyone else have any experiences of getting their boxes rebuilt??

BTW, parts include all new bearings, new input shaft and reverse gear

Cheers you Z boffs

I should be getting some prices for some new bit later on today for my S13 gearbox. I'll let you know.

I spent all weekend stripping and semi rebuilding mine, so 760 is prolly not a bad price as it's probably a fair amount of labour, and you are getting quite a few new bits.

Does that include them taking the box out and refitting it? If so sounds like a pretty fair deal. Has to be at least a days work, (£3-400).

Much cheaper to do it yourself though.

Hi Jezz,

The box has been sitting in my garage for a while now - I had to remove it to haul the engine out.

Actually since posting my previous thread - I remembered by mate who had a full rebuild on his 2WD Cossie - that cost him £1600!!!

BTW - can you email your postal address - I'll send you back your injector - I'm ordering new ones and don't need to butcher your spare!

Cheers

Simon.

go for new parts in the end then jez? how much dosh it cost ya?

Hi,

£1600 feck!! Someone is being paid £100/hour.

Just been told that the shagged gear and some bearings will be about £60. smile.gif So i'll replace the reverse idler too at that price to have a near perfect gearbox.

This is on the assumption that the guy can get them, otherwise it's a Nissan main dealer job. frown.gif Will find out tomorrow for definate.

You needn't stress about the injector, I've just bought another engine so I have 3 sets now, plus I have some bigger ones on there way. smile.gif

Jezz.

Before spending lots of wonga try the redline trick. Replace tranny oil with redline synthetic MT-90 oil and gears no longer crunch, unless they're well knacked. It's a tried and trusted mod. Cost about £40.

I am doing it very soon...
