Nothing to do with Zeds but as lots of people like their pets I'd thought I'd post.

We've always loved our animals and have been looking at getting a (or multiple) parrots. Been using http://www.parrotlinks.com/forum2/default.asp forum and chatting to lots of people. Its a big commitment (50 years plus and need lots of attention). Does anyone keep any parrots here? Heres some phots from when we went to visit some owners from the parrot forum yesterday. Dave

Your Macaw looks lovely Dave.

Love the scarlets, although not the cheapest bird around!

My Mum has two parrots in her menagerie, a lesser sulphur crested Cockatoo called Pipkin and an African Grey called Bertie. They are both wicked, such time wasters!

What parrot you after next then?

Justin

We havn't got one yet as there are so many stories like Nitros!! They need so much personal attention to keep them happy and not like little pyschos! The macaw in the picture above is an awesome beast but its just like a 4yr old whos eaten too many smarties. Always up to no good, you can't keep them in their cages and ignore them or they just go mental. We don't want to spend £1500 on one and then realise we've made a mistake. The money isn't so much the issue (apart from the fact that we don't have it!), its whether the bird would be happy. They're freakishly intelligent and I couldn't bear it if it wasn't happy. Dave

I'm going to get a long lead and tie it to the t-top haha

good to see your being responsible about it m8

cos they deffo aint like keeping fish or a dog,

had a few parrots last being a Cockatoo and she RULED the house

strutted round the house as she pleased, had her own perch and humongous

cage, cracked walnuts in one go

eventually we had to decide to let her go as i was ill at the time

and when people came to our house my wife had to TRY to put her away, lol she had to put gardening gloves on and still hurt her, like many parrots

she took a dislike to one person ie either male or female, yet my son who was about 10 then used to feed her and spend hours sitting together

luckily a member of the family bought her otherwise i'm not sure i could have let her go, she had a habit of flying onto strangers shoulders to investigate

and most peoples instinct was to shy away and then she would GRAB many a time drawing blood, pretty useful sometimes if it was someone we didnt like :nelson:

they are all noisy especially when they want attention, but if you have the time patient and knowing what the many pitfalls are then they are part of the family

i will try and find some photos, just had a quick look then and not any handy but got loads on cam'

oh yes and she was the only one who would face up to our akita lol

Cool, I'd like to see the phots. From what I've read and discussed with people Too's are the hardest of the lot to look after and also the noisiest. The Macaws seem very loud as well but I think I'd be better with something a bit bigger like a Macaw. The other choices we've been looking at are greys which seem a little too fragile for my man-handling and also eclectus's which seem very good but arn't as cuddly as the macawd. Dave

PMFSL!!!

Just make sure it doesn't shit itself when you put your foot down!!!! Could be messy with the tops off!!! :D

lol a macaw certainly aint shrinking violet m8

and will screech until they get their own way

as i said my lad could do anything with ours it used to sit at the table and share his food, any parrot your gonna have to get at a young age

and teach it YOUR bad habits, otherwise it will be very hard to introduce it to the family, i can only find this photo from the cam

i'm sure all the others on my memory cards in the car, and its getting skirts put on

never been a lover of greys meself

Even though have posted many pics of the dog we also have a african grey

Had him for over three years now but not from a baby. If we got another it would be from a baby!!

When we first got him all he did was growl at you like a dog lol, then as he got used to us I went to canada with the army. when I got back I couldnt go anywhere near him or the wife lol.

that was a couple of years ago now and he's brilliant apart from he's taken a dislike to the wife the last few weeks?

plus sides very entertaining can do everyones voice in the house shouting various phrases like me "Jo I'm going to work now bye", shouting the dog, "alfie come here, sit , stay stay good boy, alfie get on your bed"

his favorites at the moment are little britain " wicky woo", "yer I know", "I want that one", "I'm the only gay in the village"

and Max and paddy " how dare you"

also get the odd "ahh shit", "cheeky bugger", "****" (dont know where he got that?

As you can see I spend many a hour talking to him lol

there very intelligent we have to padlock his door otherwise he's out lol not good when you go out

minus side can get real annoying when trying to watch something on tv or sleep(as he's awake when the sun rises)

can be quite messy

can be partial to nipping you and when you think he can crack a brazil nut hurts a bit

needs lots of attention

lots of toys to keep them amused or bye bye feathers( greys are known for this)

big cage
