since selling my 2nd 200sx I'm now wanting a 300 tt but cant find out if its best to go for a UK or Import. seems to be conflicting info about this so any advice is welcome.

i feel like i'm :headvswal at the moment

hi,in my opinion the only thing a uk 300 has going for it is cheaper insurance,the j specs will typically have lower miles,better bodywork and above all electric folding mirrors,all in my opinion of course..

Import TT. They are better against rust.

thanks for that. So, as long as insurance isn't too much more an import is usually the way to go. Although manuals are normally more fun i'm thinking of an auto just because of the power and auto i've heard normally handle it better, what do you think? By the way a real sweet 300

you havent been reading a certain ebay ad have you? as far as i know the autobox is the weaker one,i know of countless auto boxes failing but i have never heard of a manual box failing.

If you buy a J-Spec Auto factor in an upgraded oil cooler into the costing plan as without one you will find a rather heftey bill for a new gearbox. if you are viewing on take along a 10mm socket to remove the nose panel between the lights and look to see if it has 2 small radiators in the gap or just 1. if it has 2 then somebody has done this for you and thats a nice plus. though the coolers are only about 150 quid.

The std autobox is stronger than the std clutch, though the clutch is a darn sight cheaper to repace.

so if its fresh in the country and registered, these would be better. Manual or auto. I had loads of fun in my 200, running about 250bhp and the manual handled it but although the box in 300 is better are there many "well known" problems with either.

fresh into the country a auto will need and extra cooler. its down to what you want tbh, i prefer auto's as using the clutch and gearshift is annoying and means i have to put my pint down LOL. I dont think the Nissan Autobox is that smooth and all 3 i have had seem to have their quirks.

i suppose that is a bonus with the auto lol. not seen the e-bay ad, take it someone is blagging their 300 as better due to the box! seen the one saying n/a is better than turbo though.

i no it's a bit of an ask but in your guys opinion what are the major things to look for on 300 tt when buying, like rust area's etc....

as S-Tune says,they are completely different cars,i prefer the manual as in my opinion it feels more like a sportcar where the auto feels like a big cruiser :x: .

This is a big topic - I have both an auto and a TT. IMHO they are completely different cars and it very much depends on what type of driver you are. For sheer thrashing around and driver involvement nothing beats the Manual; however if you are going to be driving a lot of motorway journeys and you want to cruise before a hassl free journey through town then go for an auto. Dont forget the Auto is actually faster to 100 mph as you dont have to keep lifting your foot off the gas. But if you're thinking about upgrading (which you almost certainly will!) expect the box to go pop!

 

import: Folding Mirrors are COOL, no rust as the JAps use volcanic ash rather than salt on their roads, generally better condition, plenty of examples around, can get Short Wheelbase (SWB) 2 seater - a true sportscar rather than GT, power and hold buttons on autobox

 

UK: insurance costs halved, petrol much cheaper as mapped for UK fuel so dont have to fill up with bloody optimax, Wont have to fit an autobox cooler, If someone breaks your window you wont have to wait 5 weeks to get a new one shipped from Japan (blue rather than brown tint), adjustable suspension by puling handbrake up one notch, LWB only, harder to find examples, You have much more reliable history (Watch out for JAp cars with roll cages/ 3 point harness attachments - likely thrashed as part of some crazy Jap's drifting club). but tend to be high mileage.

 

If i were you i would pay the extra insurance and find a good Jap example.

Who was that quote with?

that was with adrian flux. i've used them for a few year with different cars and they seem ok. always worth calling back though if you get a cheaper quote. heard norwich union is pretty cheap also if that helps.

Import or UK - Its been pretty much answered, but I would take it on a car by car basis. Dont rule out either.

 

Auto or Manual. Manual is definatly the much stronger box, Autobox is a pretty common failure unfortunatly.

 

Its claimed that the Auto its faster from a standing start 0-100mph, but there talking 0.1secs (or 'nothing' in other words ;)) and the manual is quite a bit quicker at everything else.

 

Auto will be easier to find, and cheaper though, and better for traffic if your not buying the zed as a sports car ;)

Never understood why someone would buy a sports car and then have automatic transmisson.Half of the fun of driving a quick car is changing the gears.....
