Hi all i have been searching for a decent manual zed in my price range ound a few. But been wondering would it b worth buying an auto and then converting it to a manual. Was jus wondering if its a good conversion and a rough price cheers.

Could you cost anywhere between ยฃ1000 to ยฃ2000 I reckon depending on the gearbox costs and garage costs. Also remember the auto has smaller turbo's and has diffennerence performance to manual turbo's.

There are now quite a few people who have done the conversion and I'm one of them. The auto does have marginally smaller turbos and this gives more mid-range torque and slightly less top-end, eg 10-20bhp less, not a big issue on a 300bhp+ car, and it's the mid-range that you use every day.

I reckon you should budget up to ยฃ1500 for the conversion, but you may find a bargain and get it done for perhaps half that.

I think topless (Zen garage) does it for ยฃ1500 inc parts but dont quote me on that...

As for buying an auto then converting to a manual you may decide you like the auto better.........(im saving for a conversion!)

zedworld charge 1600 which includes all bits plus new nissan clutch, but imo your better off in the long run to use a aftermarket clutch (eg) rps etc from smithy, specially if your going to increase boost etc

Due to the additional torque from the standard auto turbos it gives a standard clutch a tough time - agree with Nad, go for an uprated clutch. My standard clutch only lasted a couple of months and I went for an RPS.

I think im right in saying the turbos themselves are physically the same size & (turbine & compressor housing) but just have a different AR to shift the power lower down the rev range.

not that really matters for your question i guess!! :D

I recommend driving an auto (mines up for sale in cars for sale by the way ;) ). I had similar doubts to you when i was looking, thought having an auto would take the fun out of driving. However when i bought my beastie and drove her all my doubts dissappeared. A car this powerful eats anything whether manual or auto and the real fun is in keeping her on the road. The Kick down is very effective also. Look for a UK car also as you may save a grand or so on insurance. Oh and full service history is very important to!

My car seems to tick all these boxes coincidently....

(sorry for the sale pitch)

An idea is to get an auto, get any jobs needed done on it and then decide if a conversion is the way to go.

I am more than happy with my UK auto and they are only fractionally slower to 60 but quicker to 100. Try an auto, you are already connsidering a conversion so see how it goes, secondly if you break the box, so what you have probably budgeted for the new one!

i'm in the same boat i dont know wether to go for a auto off z-tech or a manual the only thing i dont like about the auto is when doing about 30-35mph i floor it and it changes into 2nd when i think it should be 1st, this making acceleration poor i couldn't leave an old m3 :headvswal
