Noticed more and more cars driving around with black electrical insulating tape at the top and or bottom of their numberplate.

just a strip closeish to the characters.

 

Anyway - now been told its because for some reason the cameras cant recognize the characters because the thick black tape strip joins up the characters?

Anyone else heard this.

 

Only posted becuase I counted 5 going down motorway yesterday.

there was a company doing it not so long ago called safe plate try , them on their web site http://www.safeplate.co.uk i have it on my zed its not noticeable i have been followed by the rozzers right behind me even at night , but when i have triggered a flash i have never had a fine however these 'specs' cameras are a different thing all together 'satelite positioning exact calculated speed' i think its an anacronym for maybe our more learned members would beg to differ ...

I tin covers 6 number plates as I only need it for 2 a couple of us could both chip in and once I have done my 2 I will post the can to the next member so it works out cheaper?? Anybody want to do this??

isnt this made from same stuff as computer display security screens have seen some computer displays with an additional screen and you can only view the screen when looking straight at it, might be cheaper and easier to source in this country if it is.

I always thought thats why the non reflective number plates were illegal as the cameras can't pick them up?

i used to have a mate who made these and used to make a killing!

guys whats the point. if you get cought, lets say you get pulled over and they notice yooul end up with more than points on your licence.

i had the address and vid clip of a product that looked good, its a totally clear sheet of thin plastic with a live 12v feed attatched. When you flick the switch it turns white instantly blocking your plate. Obviously you cant use it around town but when its late at night and your having a bit fun just flick the switch and give it some welly :D

Just pull over and take your Plates off!! Only 2 screws per plate :D :D

Or Better still borrow someone elses plates :rofl:

Perhaps if you put a perspex cover with 3" gap over the number plate that is slighty diffuse when a flash light hits the perspex cover it illuminates that and so obscures the number plate underneath.

Earlier in the week I drove from Las vegas to Flagstaff Arizona, back to Vegas then to LA and back and saw ONE potential speed trap (LAPD on a freeway bridge). Drove through the centre of LA too. Can't really understand why this Country is spear-heading this campaign when it doesn't make our roads any safer and doesn't generate anywhere near as much revenue as a minor increase in tobacco tax would.

 

One idea is to cover the plate with an LCD panel which turns black when Radio/IR detectors pick up radiation from the doppler measurement device. This isn't rocket science, the difficulty would be obtaining the correct sized LCD panel.
