been noticing a burning smell when getting out of me Z recently so after a quick inspection in the engine bay noticed what looks like a small oil leak coming from the engine :( . Not very technical but can describe it as closest part of engine to battery. looks like some sort of gasket not sure, was just wondering if it is a common place to get a leak or if anyone else has experienced it. Does not seem to be loosing much engine oil thought.

thanks for any help all.

no unfortunatly not got digital camera. will try and give better description. if you remove the battery an look from side of car under the silver engine cover [plenum] on the corner of engine (also battery height) can see a bolt looks like it is securing something together, gasket could be in there somewhere that has gone. Was just wondering if anyone got an idea of whats leaking.

thanks

just found a picture of engine with plenum off and have highlighted area in green but having trouble attaching this - dont suppose you know how this is done?

Would it be at the front below the plenum on the same side as the battery, if so its probably the rocker cover. I have my plenum 75% removed just now for this, I could see oil dripping onto the AC pump then onto the deck. On mine when I looked at the AC pump from the front of the engine I could see the oil landing on it.

If you want mail me the pic and i'll highlight the area of my leak and compare. My add is tottiegt4@yahoo.com .

From that pic you sent me it looks like a rocker cover oil leak, the 2 outside (1 left and 1 right) are sealed with silicone like substance, the 2 inner covers have a seal. Looks like you are gonna need the plenum off. I think that maybee you can see the oil at this point but the leak will be further forward as the engine sits slightly higher at the front than the back.

yep if your sure its not the pcv hoses i havnt seen pics so not sure, the cam covers can also have hairline cracks which means idealy the cover needs replacing,as said plenum off and replace sealant or rocker cover itself
