Hi

There are roadworks on the M1 between the Junction with the M25 and J10 or so.

The speed limit is 40mph, but there are no speed cameras.

Somebody said to me that they time you over a set distance and if you average is higher that 40mph then you get a ticket.

I think I am getting my leg pulled, but with no cameras it does make me think.

Any thoughts

No they were right mate, it works out your average speed between the 2 cameras and unfortunately the cameras are right at the begining and right at the end

You are joking right?

I went there and back yesterday and didn't see an thing.

There might be a couple of letters coming thought the post to me then.

yep - its funny - they have these cameras up at J25 off the M1 too (roadworks).

The cameras are called SPECS. Its a 40mph limit and this car passed us at 80mph+ slowed down for the camera then nailed it back up to 80mph not realising its linked to the cameras before and after.

Same as on the M11 above Stanstead. The temp cameras seems to be on blue gantrys and are a bugger to see at night.

Hi

Just to answer my own question :headvswal

Here is an extract from

http://www.hertsdirect.org/roadtrans/rsu/driving/safetycameras/

Enforcement through the M1 widening roadworks

The 40mph limit through the M1 widening roadworks from Junction 10 to 6A, due to start on 20 March 2006, will be enforced by SPECS or time over distance cameras. Cameras mounted on overhead gantries will photograph cars on entry to the roadworks and measure how long they take to travel to the end gantry - if this indicates too high a speed, a ticket will be automatically generated.

I hope this helps others
