Just had renewal through and its gone from £340 to £690!!!!!

2nd car on limited 5k pa mileage.

Anyone else had same problem and come up with an alternative?

I can make it my main car for the summer(next 5 months) for extra £220 and garage the Lexus for that time. Seems like the best option unless anyone has any ideas.......

It depends on how old your zed is. I've just renewed my insurance and the quote from my last provider (Norwich Onion!) went from £700 to over £900, and I'm 47 with a full no claims. Luckily my zed is now over 15 years old so got a classic insurance for £315, 5000 miles, £250 excess. Very Happy!!!! Big smiles as I can spend more on petrol!!!

I had a similar experience when I changed jobs and got a van, I ended insuring the car in the wife's name on classic with Houghtons as a 2nd car for 175 quid, renewed this month at 173 quid.

Kinda scarey thought though having my zed registered in my wife's name as she hates the thing and says its a good holiday to America sitting in the garage doing fook all but thats another story.

Cheers John Crisp

I just renewed with Houghton in Jan and it was almost the same as last year... :)

I was told they changed it all back in Jan ChrisC, so you must have got in beforehand!

I think I'll give Norton a try.Thanks Snoopy300.

Bell Direct can give you the same ncb on your second car. I have mine both for full business use.

Mine dropped from £560 down to £290 for my last renewal , fully comp,5000 miles a year and £250 excess , thats with Houghtons , as you can imagine i was well happy

snap and mine was done about 3 weeks ago

AndyB,

Is this the first renewal letter you have had ? if so ring them and get them to give you the quote with your NCB as when i got mine it was 570ish and ended up paying £273 after NCB was taken off.

Hope this helps

Matt

Thanks all for your input. Having noted the recent renewals at similar rates with Houghtons, I went back to them today and asked them to try harder ! A while later Michelle from Houghtons (very helpful) called me back with a new premium of £370 instead of £690! Result.

Makes me wonder if they make it up as they go. I do have commuting to and from work permitted on my policy though.... just can t help it when the sun is out !

I get my 300ZX tomorrow and spent today ringing around after mixed result last night on the internet. I tried many of the household names, 1st Quote and Norton’s and got silly quotes around £650ish, then Houghtons came back with £333 fully comp. I have 5 years NCD but it is used on another car, no garage, (but 300Metres from the public road) I’m 43, with no convictions. I’m pleased!

I changd my insurance recently to http://www.siftcver.com 30 ish for the year. Totally online so give them a try.

Sorry that shold be http://www.swiftcover.com and it was 350 ish

£380 for me. i just dont know why 1 person with identical details and from teh same club gets a different quote. some profesions I can understand, few points etc. but I have 3 points and I have a cheaper insurance quote than many the same age with zero.

have to say, since I got flashed, I drive like a grandma. I dont want no more points
