Setting the base idle and TPS voltage

OK, I know you have to disconnect the idle valve to set the base idle. Do you set this to about 750RPM on a TT. Then, when I come to set the TPS do I reconnect the idle valve or does it not matter ?

TPS voltage should be around 0.42v - 0.45v, is that right ?

BTW I have the freeware conzult downloaded so should make life a little easier

TPS ~ 0.44-0.48v Disconnect then reconnect TPS cable. (Not plug on unit, the one on the flying lead).

Ensure hard idle switch ON

Unplug IAV and set idle to ~750.

Plug back in, should rise to ~800.

Huh, sorry John, you got me

I got the freeware conzult and there is a section on that that (I think) disconnects the idle valve (is that the AIV) then set base idle.

How do I ensure hard idle switch is on ?

Do I do base idle first then TPS or the other way around ?

DO TPS first then base idle. There should hopefully be someting in the free consult software to show hard idle is on. Will say closed throttle or something similar.

Yes, idle valve should be IAAV or whatever its called! AIV is exhaust air injection gubbins, different thing.

AIV is exhaust air injection gubbins,

depending on how old it is, merc will actually go back quite a few years with goodwill payments on 210 E class.

yea, 210 series. had loads of corrosion problems, erm i mean isolated incidents ;)

even had the front subframe corroding away & the fron spring cups corroding & coming away :x:

  • 1 month later...

if you havent got conzult how/whereabouts do you disconnect the AIV?

Ive just set my TPS right and want to set the base idle.

I presume I need to unplug the fly lead of the TPS and adjust the screw on the aiv.

However just not sure where the plug for the aiv is and what the hard idle bits about.
