I may have got hold of completely the wrong end of the stick, but I was sure I'd seen some sort of electronic device that conects to the ECU loom and then pipes out all the engine sensors readings to a screen via a A/V phono lead. I don't mean the INFORMETER. This was something that didn't have it's own screen.

Anyone got any ideas? Been surfing the net for hours :headvswal

Conzult and Datascan software offer this functionality for output via USB or serial to a Laptop/PC/Carputer

ah... only i have a 7" floppy fold out screen i was hoping to be able to display something technical on. Building a carputer is just a little out of my mental league.

Thanks anyhow :(

you only need a laptop dude, my understanding is its simple as one end of lead to ecu, other to laptop and then u get all your readings on screen.

Hi,

I'm the official distributor of the DTA ConZult and can confirm that it will display correctly on a small fold out screen (see attached pic). You will still need to install the diagnostic software on a car-based harddisk but as you're building a carputer that shouldn't be a problem. So long as you've got a decent graphics card to provide for the real-time sensor feedback. We can get it custom configured as well to show just the information you want to see on the main screen but leave all the functionality intact for when you need it.

Right so I have a motorised fold out screen and a seperate DVD/radio headunit. What else do i need and can it be done without a second mortgage?

Basically, you need either a laptop permanently in the car and wired up to the motorised screen or have a "carputer" in the car. Choice is yours. The laptop spec to run the ConZult diagnostic software is very minimum (ie, WinXP, 64Mb RAM, 2Gb HDD, 433Mhz PII minimum) so can be bought cheaply. You'll also need a power invertor to power the system.

The chap who owns the car in the pic I put up above built his own carputer and mounted in the boot. From there there is a link to the screen and he's also got a USB keyboard and trackball up front to manipulate the software. I think he spent about £300 on all the parts (excl. a customised version of our ConZult).

Thanks for the help but now you've opened up a can of worms...

Will this software run on a mac?

Yes it will. Don't ask me exactly how and what you need (I'm not a mac man). I think if you've got a windows "emulator" running it'll work without problems ... if that makes any sense.

There are a couple of people on this forum who run our ConZult software on mac laptops, perhaps one of them could enlighten us.

Nissan Datascan V1.4.

Cable and Software is around £70

however where has been interest from others, so could setup a group buy, which will bring cost down.
