Hello people,

Hope you all are fine and having good times with your Zeds. I lost the head gasket on mine a couple of months ago.Managed to get it to the garage yesterday to get it fixed. The guy is charging me £1000 for the engine out work with the skimming tests and all.I just wanted to know is there anything else I need to keep in mind about and get checked out.I mean when the head gasket on a zed goes is there anything else that is damaged with it I might need to get the mechanic to have a look at.I'd appreciate any help and suggestions.

thanks guys.

You would be wise to renew all the rubber pipes at the back of the engine which usually perish through heat and age, and do a top end bypass, which does away with loads of pipework, both rubber and metal, that is supposed to heat the intake plenum, as though it needs it. Also, fit a crankshaft rear oil seal as they are prone to leaking quite regularly.

depends on how much it overheated, but a common thing on overheated zeds is a melted detonation sensor, so if this is this case it obviously needs to be replaced.

replace all coolant hoses around the engine, waterpump, thermostat and RMS at the very least.

most likely the engine mounts need to be replaced as well.

and if you can afford it, I'd recommend to have a new main wiring harness installed, while the engine is out....can save you from a lot of trouble in the near future.

timing belt and tensioner is probably the one of the most important things to get done aswell

thanks for your suggestions guys.after a bit of thinking ive decided to go for a rebuild as i dont really trust the older engine anymore.got a feeling more problems will come out with it which might end of costing more.so gonna get a new engine put in there.in other words gonna dig a deep hole in my pocket (financial wise).hope it all goes well for me.
