for anyone with leaky targa roof, try this....

Featured Replies

Never had leaky targas myself......

......but IMO the best solution is prevention - twice a year treat the rubber with silicone oil rejuvinator spray. It keeps the rubber in sufficient order to seal like it did when new.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I will give that a go. I put lots of silicon inbetween the panel and the rubber but didnt compress it out enough. Similiar idea to yours but more mess.

Ill be off to B&Q today then.

mine still leaks but the water follows the inside of the A-pillar and spills out of the bottom of my top gauge

Another thing to check (shown to me by Craig-s) is if your window doesnt stay in position very well. I found mines to be rattly. To fix this there is a screw on the inside of the door trim which is part of a plate to hold the window tight, screw no doubt fell into the door. As this isnt there to inst the window allowing leaks.

I will be doing this tomorrow need a small enough nut, should fix mines.

I have that problem only when it rains heavy. Can you give me more details about the rubber strips. Do they come is a package of something.

PM me your address and i'll send you some.......

cheers

( what have you got to lose ? )......

you can also get mir trim treatment and i use to use it on all the seals and trims keeps them nice and supple and stops them cracking, never had leaky targas though

OK just done the power wash test on the car. Absolutely no leaks no. Time to sell the spare set of targa seals I have now.

By the way, check your window for wobblyness. If it is too wobbly take off the panel where the seat belt is (series 1), be careful there is a philips screw located by putting the window down on the outside. Get an 8mm (i think) nut and tighten this up. Sorted both of my sides straight away. Well pleased.

just out of interest, did the tightening up of the window cure the leak or did you use the "rubber strips" or both ??

cheers

Andy..

Just the tightening. The leak was in exact same point as your also. I was gonna put some of the wee strip in but it was cured without so didnt bother. Still a good idea though if it isnt cured from that.

window was loose, the nut was missing so i put a new nut on and tightened it up, now the window seals better next to the door pillar, there was very little contact by the door pillar before.

cheers for that

Hi Andy,

That's a good write up.

I was wondering if you have any of those rubber strips left and whether you fancy sending me some too?

Thanks. Mike...

TBH m8 you probably wont need those strips. Just try your window like I suggested earlier in the thread. Fixed my sieve of a roof and others by the sounds of it. Makes sure you get a good seal the way it was from the factory

i'd agree with that, try to see if your window is loose first, if its all ok then i'd glady send the strips out, the strips worked for me and for speedmon too, so check your window 1st then PM me your address if you need any of the strips.

cheers

Andy...

dont suppose you fancy sending some my way? mine leaks from targa and into the top gauge, really irritating when you pull off and the top gauge "pees" all over your leg..lol
