We should have a thread nominating brilliant roads to drive on - either because they are fast, twisty or have brilliant scenery or pubs along the way!!

I'll kick off with an obvious choice - A57 Snake Pass Glossop to Sheffield - stunning scenery with fast open straights, tight moorland bends and heavily wooded sections. It easily becomes impassable when it snows however.

B6047 Melton Mowbray to Market Harborough

Albeit a bikers road you can still have major fun on the twisties and straights! Nice scenery too!

A39 from Blackmoor gate to Williton in Cornwall

Thru Lynton and Lynmouth and then Porlock Hill, serious serery and a cracking road, just dont get it wrong or you'll need to deploy a parachute

Agree with you there Rich.

Also, take B6047 (from A47) to Halstead, then the road from there all the way to Braunstone (Rutland) is brand new and resurfaced - GORGEOUS drive. just dont get caught out on the blind corners.

Agreed - however it also becomes impassable with a slow moving lorry in front of you :(

Some of the corners can catch you out thou - nearly crashed me bike there loads of times :)

I was going to say that one Rich. I tanked it along there during last summer. Awesome road. Did you notice the bikers slow down sign? obviously a biker road, i can see why. I took some good pictures looking down into Lynmouth from the cliff road, will post them later when I get on my other computer. I then flew across dartmoor from barnstaple to plymouth which was awesome to (it was night and no traffic whole way). Got to plymouth and got done by a bl*ody speed camera doing 39 in a 30 (genuinely thought it was a 40 zone as it was just up the road.

Penderyn to Brecon Road (South Wales), always on Top Gear.

Nice, but be careful of the sheep.

the m20 from the dartford crossing to ashford, not one camera in site! and downhill, ive had some disgusting speeds down there

Its not really fare that I mention this road cos you might not ever get a chance to drive it but, The gillies range just outside of Cairns in Oz.

Man I have never seen twisties like it, steep inclines and it goes on for ever.

Takes about 45mins to an hour to drive up and scenery is like sea views over the barrier reef then rock face then rain forest then more mountains, oh I wish I was back there.

My Favourite stretch was from Plymouth all the way down to Harlyn bay. I did that drive every weekend in the Z and especially loved the A38 to Truefoot, Loads of twisty hills with positive cambers, great when empty early in the morning, taken on and embarrised many a 600cc sports bikes.

The most scenic road has to be the Icefield parkway in the rocky mountains. 100 miles of breathtaking scenery, if your out this way then make it a must. I'll be driving the Z along it this year, cant wait!!
