Shabina Begum wore jilbab gown to school and was sent home and asked to return in school uniform.

Now, there's an uproar!

Sorry, but it's not racist, in much the same way as I was NOT allowed to wear trainers.

There is a reason for a school uniform!

Pisses me off people using racism as an excuse for everything. Did she seriously think that wearing something other than what she was asked to wear would be ok?

She's living in England, whilst I'm tolerant of other beliefs, if she doesn't like the way of life in this country, then she knows where the door is.

when i was at school the rage was spliffy jackets. i had a letter sent home stating that they wasn't saying i was taking drugs but the jacket is advertising an illegal substance and the scholl would not tolerate it ffs.

my mum had to sew a velcro cover which i had to put on during school hours.

why should anybody else be different. a school uniform is to keep all the kids the same and help to stop bullying.

I hate racism, I hate injustice as much.

We are all people, two arms, two legs and all that stuff that bolts on and around the middle bit.

If you break the law you pay (well you used to)

If you break the rules you get a roasting

We are all people, two eyes, two ears and a sense of what is right or wrong.

Its when people try to bend or break rules or laws that society falls apart.

CAN YOU SEE THE CRACKS.

School uniform creates equality and that is not acceptable to some faiths as they believe themselves to be superior. A very sound decision by the powers that be, makes a change!

Those that don't like that should send their offspring to faith schools then surely.

It strikes me as being rather oxymoronic that those who have a problem, seemingly with free speech are also the ones that want freedom of expressive rights.....you CAN'T win.

The above is purely an observation.

Yep, she tried to use the race card and it came back and shot her up the arse...for once the Lords have seen sense. Hope we get to see her either in school uniform, or on the deportation plane!!!!

I think it's good for this kind of debate. Shows there's some patriotism in the country. Don't want it to be flushed all down the race/religion tube.

I do love the fact that the UK is multi-cultural/multi-religious. I find other faiths and cultures highly fascinating and make for the spice of life. BUT, this IS England, it always has been and always will be. Some need to accept that.

If someone was to kick up a similar fuss somewhere like Afghanistan they would be flogged, raped and killed!

I agree...makes me mad...

Christ, if a woman was to walk in the streets of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) with a little skimpy top on and hot pants, she'd be flogged to death....

Can't go forcing values on others. Saying that, Britain shouldn't have invaded Iraq and forced democracy on them....or tried to.

Playing devils's advocate somewhat but...

We need to achieve racial integration in schools. This is clearly very important to certain Muslims so why shouldn't they wear their traditional dress? I do accept they should accept British culture to an extent but they should be permitted to retain their beliefes as long as they're not harmfull.

I fear we marginalise the moderate Muslims and push them towards anti-west extreme behaviour.

Political corectness has gone mad but the "It's political corectness gone mad" gainsayers have also gone just as mad.

Ultimately you could say that clothing like she wants to wear that is repressive to women but I think we need to be healing rifts not creating them at this point in time.

Do agree to an extent. Thing is, if you did that, where would it stop? There are or could be, double standards across the board.

Britain shouldn't have invaded Iraq and forced democracy on them....or tried to.

I am sure that millions of Iraqis would disagree there.....

Ifv we did that, then we would have religions poipping up everywhere saying "we want this etc". Where would it end?

...and millions would agree. Yes, they now have democracy, but the killing is worse and so is the quality of life believe it or not. Iraq is in absolute caos at the moment, far worse than under Saddam's regiem.

Difficult to know what to do, but invading all the countries in the world because you don't agree with the way they're run isn't always the best thing.

...far worse than under Saddam's regiem.

QUOTE]

Not entirely true. Under Saddam the country was ruled by terror and at the minute they have a democracy with a small minority trying to ruin it becuase of their religious beliefs and pure greed.

Things are a lot better now but the job is not complete. I do agree however that it is time to pull us out and let them murder each other.

Move troops into the desert - out of sight, but there is needed.

Try and support an elected Iraqi government and their armed forces, help rebuild their infrastructure and free media.

IMHO

Get Shabina in a bikini and publisheed in the Sunday Sport for her insulance!

  nice one

Amen brother

Fully agree with this and Si's original post.

It's a victory for common sense. Reading the BBC news article re ".......she was aware of the school's uniform..........3 other schools in the area allowed the Jilbab......."etc etc.

Seems to me this bint was only out to make trouble rather than make a stand for what she actually believed in.

It's behaviour like hers that actually incites religious and racial intollerance rather than discourages it.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
