As above what the best route to go

A full stand alone ECU or a piggy back ECU

Pro and cons for both please

Stabd alone will always be better. Piggybacks are ok, but all they really do is feed lies to the ecu to make it perform outside of its normal operating parameters, each will work fine although it just depends how far you are going to take things in the future.

this is it, wanna make sure that if i do take thing further then the cars got the ability to go there with out a load more cash!

stand even.... must read what i've typed.

Standalones such as AEM/MOTECH etc... Are only as good as the tuner who maps it...This is where you will end up spending alot of money, definately good if you really are serious about heavily modifying your car, but be prepared to pay for it...

If you are wanting a good Piggyback, then A great one to go for is the Greddy E-manage ultimate, once fitted with all the correct harnesses and you have the right map settings for your needs, its more user friendly and is more than capable of handling most modification requirements for alot less money than going the standalone route... :)

Entirely up to you, but the most important thing I'd suggest...Is finding a good tuner for which ever option you go for.

Goes for piggybacks too.

Like I said  :D

No contest, standalone all the way, piggy backs are crude and cant do half the things an EMS can do.

Chris still waiting details on the AEM EMS you spoke about. price etc

Sorry bud email and i'll send you a load of info, got a customer going for one this week, quite a few going this way now

Don't disregard the stock ECU too quickly if you're not going down massively modded route. It can work well with quite highly modified cars.

Obviously a standalone is better but that mainly comes from being easier to map and loosing the MAF limitations on a big power car.

Always good to get a JD post!

Cheers for all the advise guy's keep it coming, so far only had 1 mane for a replacement stand alone...anymore?

Emerald is very good and software is excellent. You're not going to get anyone better than Dave Walker to map it either, the guy is one of the best.

Motech very good but also pretty expensive.

DTA good but software horrible to use.

Its funny cos i am buying a full stand alone ECU for mine but the main ecu used on highly modded jap cars is still the HKS F-Con Pro which is a piggy back

As john says the OEM ecu is cracking because it controls everything the zed does perfectly and can still work well even if modded as long as you get a decent mapped chip but its all down to mapping!! doesnt matter if you have a £2k ecu or a £100 chip, if the map is not good it can still go BANG

trust me its a piggy back, its about the best piggy back you can get but it plugs in between the loom and the oem ecu which in my eyes makes it a piggyback ;)

Like John I'm going for an M3DK system from Dave as well. Excellent system and a top notch guy who really knows his stuff. He's over in Watton, Norfolk.

lookingon that site, it's gonna cost £800 for the ecu and the mapping. take it that a real good price if he's the best in the business.
