Hi All,

I have looked at all of the posts that appeared when i did a search on Steering Wheel Vibration..

Ok - so by the looks of it mine, which is the steering wheel vibrating at around 60-80mph and when breaking at speed could be the Tracking, Balancing or propshaft bearings.

(Had the discs checked when i had my front pads changed)..

Just wondered what actually cleared the vibrating up on people cars...what was the outcome?

Thanks

Ed

to be perfectly honest those syptoms perfectly match what i had and when i changed my front shocks for different reasons, it cured it, completley,

tension rod bushes/ and disc's warped is biggest cure especially when using r33disc's as it multiply's any defect when you put these on

yeah - come to think of it the front shocks could be the one - theres a few thuds coming from the front wheels when going over bumps etc.

I have the same problem,(judder judder )through the steering at speed

I know my prop centre bearing is gone and I have a warped brake disc

I did have the problem when my prop was ok, so for me it's deffo the brakes (where's my purse? )

Vibration through steerign wheel will be :

Wheels balancing(or damaged/buckled)

Tension bushes

steering Tie-rod bushes

worn shocks

warped discs

Wheel alignment

Prob will be felt through the seat, rather than the steering wheel

hmmm i dont really feel anything through the seat - i dont think...just the steering wheel, had my front discs checked so shouldnt be them...think il'll try the balancing first..

damn! I wanted to get a leather interior next too!!! looks like it will have to wait!

Hi, Just joined so first Hello. I had something that sounds similar on my NA and it turned out to be Tie rod bushes. They aren't too expensive/difficult to replace.

ive had new tyres on the back - just last week...front one dont need replacing - although they are nankangs...

New tyres, new shocks, new suspension bushes all round (inc. tension rods) new steering rack rods, new wheel bearings, solid upper control arms, new discs, new pad, wheels balanced, STILL shimmy's under breaking with vibration through the wheel :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal

Went through all this on mine and even had the wheels balanced several times to no improvement. Put up with it for years. Tried one more time at a different place asking them to balance for zero unbalance after reading a post on this and miracle cure. Smooth as silk at any speed. I think if you have non standard wheels - mine are 18" X 8.5" fronts with 235 tyres then balance is very critical.

Seems many fitters think a 10-20g unbalance is acceptable. Maybe it is on many cars but it wasnt on mine.

this could be it I am on standard wheels (uk spec) on a jap car.

how could the capliers themselves cause this? I don't understand how. discs and pads are new and not warped........

Calipers have been pronounced sound by mechanic. I need this sorting for the trip to the ring as it effects my confidence when driving 'spiritedly'

If the steering wheel shakes WHEN braking it can be either brake discs or the brake tension rods being worn.

If the steering wheel Shakes under normal driving at certain speeds its more likely to be a balance problem.

If the seat of your pants vibrates then your prop shaft is likely worn or the bearing needs replacing.

All of these are common Z problems at some time or other.

Mine is shaking between 60-80 and I'm going to get the wheels balanced while still on the car. I agrre with an earlier post that our cars are mor prone to showing slight inbalances up and some fitters just do a quick job coz they cant be bothered.....

Ok peeps - just had my tracking done - well it couldnt be done properly because he said one of the bushes at the back was damaged? anyway he said he squared it up so they were both side were a bit off but almost perfect..then i had all of them balanced.

So - its got rid of the vibration through the wheel when going at 50-80mph, but i did still notice a bit when braking...maybe the discs, but they were supposed to be ok.

Anyway just thought id give you some feedback..
