There is already an event that runs this route.

Count me in if you get it sorted.

TT Tim,

Thanks for that, I have contacted them. I am just waiting for a reply.

Matty,

The existing LeJog run is for cars over 25yrs old but it would be very useful to have details of the route :-)

Tim

I have asked for route details and anything else we might need to know about the run i.e. do we need any permission from anybody along the route!

Well you never know.... biggrin.gif

Spares and Equipment

It is easy to overload your car with spares and tools (TV Screens, Porn) but the extra weight puts a great strain on its suspension and transmission. “Travel light Tooley” is usually the best motto. So in a small car you may be better off not taking all the items below.

But there are some basic items which everyone should carry (Beer, Munchies). What you actually take depends in part on the carrying capability and power of your car, in part on its known weak spots, and in part on your own ability to work on it!

Here is our suggested checklist (again, not comprehensive):

Spare parts

- fan belt (or 2)

- top & bottom radiator hoses

- coil (mount in place - see above)

- distributor cap (possibly, distributor unit too)

- rotor arm

- set of points

- set of spark plugs

- fuel pump (if electric - see above)

- fuses

- condenser

- voltage regulator (For TV Screen for those long nights of porn watching)

- spare electrical switch(es)

- light bulbs (full set, including interior/map lights!)

- extra spare wheel (or at least an extra spare tyre - weighs less)

- additional spare inner tube(s)

- wiper blades (fit new ones before the event, too)

- radiator cap

- speedo cable (especially if relying on speedo-driven Halda)

- extra set of wheelnuts (or centre-lock spinners, one for each direction)

- gasket set

- maybe, plastic emergency windscreen

- if you can spare the weight: bigger items such as dynamo, battery, halfshafts, etc, especially if these are weak points on your car

Tools etc

- 2 electric torches, with spare batteries and bulbs

- warning triangle (compulsory - a cheap one is best, as you’ll probably leave it behind if you have to use it!)

- top quality tow rope: long and strong and preferably with shackles at each end

- jump leads

- petrol: 1 gallon can (more, if car will not do 150 miles on tankful); or fuel bag. Note that spare fuel may only be carried in purpose-made containers

- engine oil: 1 or 2 litres

- tube of grease

- brake/clutch fluid

- water: 1 gallon container

- funnel (cranked, if necessary, or add old rad hose - plastic is lighter)

- gauze filter

- good jack - a small trolley if your car can easily carry it, otherwise a Bilstein VW “monkey on stick” type adapted to your car

- strong flat bit of wood, for putting jack on

- axle stand - heavy but desirable if you can carry it (get aluminium one if possible) (NEVER get under the car when it’s on the jack alone - put the spare wheel under the sill, if that’s all you’ve got)

- reasonably strong plastic sheet or old sack, for lying under the car on

- usual toolbag: spanners, socket set, screwdrivers, pliers, snips, Allen keys, plug spanner, feeler gauges, adjustable spanners, Mole wrench, sharp knife, etc

- tyre levers (optional - they are heavy!)

- magnet on flexible stalk

- good wheelbrace (not the flimsy standard item - carry that as spare)

- spare nuts, bolts, washers, etc.

- half a dozen bungee straps (the rallyman’s no 1 friend!)

- big roll of genuine, strong canvas tank tape - the real article is VERY expensive, so don’t lend it!

- lots of cable ties

- good lengths of electrical wire, for emergency repairs (including tying things back on)

- insulating tape and/or masking tape

- string

- armoured plastic tubing

- aerosol of puncture mousse

- Jubilee clips for (i) rad hoses; (ii) fuel lines

- WD40

- screen cleaning detergent

- screenwash/antifreeze fluid

- radiator welding fluid

- gasket leak ditto

- tube of Gun Gum

- tube of Swarfega

- leather/cloth for cleaning screen

- Araldite/superglue

- de-icing fluid, and scraper

- good first aid kit, especially for cuts & burns incurred working on car

- snow chains? They’re heavy, slow to fit and haven’t been needed on LE JOG yet - but there’s always a first time! On balance, I’d leave at home - but Geoff Awde carries them in an MGA!

You will note that a lot of the above items are for crudely lashing things back together, when they break or fall off. Well, that’s rallying!

I have made a few adjustments at the top of the list but as I said it don;t apply to us, and we moan about the Z and it's reliablility!!

Nah, there's is all hoyty toyty and doing a drive like that in f**kin' December??? WTF! Brave aren't they!

Me and Mat Lad are thinking more along the lines of Jappy Races and recreating the original movies ambience(and weather) if possible! A tribute to the great automotive movies of the 70's and 80's not like this "Gone in 60 seconds" arse, tripe, piss, shit!!! Sorry, Toretts kicked in again... wink.gif

Sorry only one turbo running 18psi

and a lowly top speed of 150 somthing

We can nick their route though, good work Mattley, bloody hell...how big are the cars they drive??? Is it an Eddie Stobart LeJog??? LMAO!

I'll just tow a whole Z behind me then shall I? Isn't that what the AA are for...daft buggers! biggrin.gif

Tim

Who is gonna get intouch with who? Paul has 200 forum

Who you got so far?

CheerZ Paul...

Tim

;-)

Group buy on GPS SATNAV anyone? LMFAO!

biggrin.gif

Don't know mate, we should contact most of them...Supras, RX-7s, Hondas etc.

Just let them know that we are in the preliminary stages of getting the whole concept together. Then just try and get some feedback on how many would be interested?

Tim

;-)

Shall we start with the Supra guyZ? I'll logon to their site you do the Skylarks...

[This message has been edited by Timmy_Turbo (edited 02-08-2001).]

im in and i have a fantastic charity, it for this houhold in south africa, the guy was attacked i ndecember last year and he has never been the same since and he cant work now cause he is mentaly disabled and all that, really is rather sad.

Sounds cool but something tells me that as soon as the pig twats find out about it and a proposed route they will be watching like hawks and dishing out monster fines!

Some of us would have to drive all the way south to come back north too...

I might just start at Leeds and beat you all LOL!

Chris isn't that the point?

I would have to start in Birmingham, drive south then north then South again....Man that's a long way back....

Still gonna do it though all part of the fun and forget the police, there will hopefully be loads and loads of us all travelling the course (some quicker than others) we'll put the guys with the gadgets out front!!

biggrin.gif

Matty.

TSfinal.gif

Shhhhhhhhh, that's the whole point of the Cannonball Run in the film...don't you get it?

We all make our way down to Lands End say for the night before, then all get Leo'd(not too Leo'd) and then set off next day...

Pigs don't need to know if we keep it amongst ourselves. We're not talking about arranging a Billing type event here

Obviously we're not all going to drive straight up the M1 in a massive convoy either. Cannonball Run is a race, not a convoy...but that doesn't mean that we all have to go beserk! Prize money for the winner, 2nd and 3rd should be a sensible. Whole point of this is to raise money for CHARITY! So NO Chris, you can't start at Leeds mate, as your individual sponsor form will clearly state that you have to complete the journey starting from Lands End and completing in John O'Groats...LOL! God we're a lazy arsed bunch!

Tim

;-)

P.S. Matty, have emailed Celicas OC, GT4OC, GTiROC and MR2DC so far...just told them what we're thinking about doing and asked them to send any feedback!

Matty Boy,

I'll email Starion, FTO and Lancer...

Later

Tim

;-)

Oh my word ! ! Hope there's going to be something better at the end than a gold medal as in LEJOG, as the cost to each Z owner will be sky-high !

Put it this way....forget that whole spares list, there's only two things Z owners need for that kind of thing (no lads...the porn isn't one of them)

Group buy's on a tanker of fuel and a fibreglass factory anyone???

*cringes at the thought of his front spoiler needing repairs even one more smeggin' time*

eek.gif

No chocolate medals 'ere Jay!!! No no no noooo! We'll come up with something substantial, if I have to put up the prize money myself...we could get some sponsorship maybe from some of our suppliers...HINT HINT!

For a good cause hopefully! So more reason to take part! You never know, fuel prices could be half the price next year

Tim

;-)

I'm sure we can get some sponsorship....

Why not there's enough of them out there!!

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th...just as in GT3....

What you reckon? Everyone who goes into it and raises money for thier respective charitys should get something...and I'm not talking about that warm helpful glow you get when you do something for someone else!!

biggrin.gif

This will be a great event!

Matty.

------------------

TSfinal.gif

If this is on them I'm taking out shares in a petrol company - I'll be the only one to make a profit !!!!

Actually, serious thought - that's who you should get as a sponsor, then you could do something like put all the cash you would have spent on petrol into the charity fund. That should boost it a bit !

And if you want charitys nominated then I would say the MS Society as they are one of the least well funded, given the number of sufferers.

Mat the Lad,

Result mate, Paul from GT4OC has replied saying that he's been thinking about doing something like this and has asked for more detail. I've pointed him in this direction, Celica guys might be interested. GTiROC mail got returned as unknown address.

Tim

;-)

P.S. Sod petrol, some of you lot are heading down the dark and dismall Z ownership path that will only lead to having your car Strosek Kitted, sprayed immaculately with Quality Street triangular chocolate green then going to car shows and baiting poor people with Ford Escorts saying "are you jealous?" LOL! Don't go there for f**ks sake!

How about a group buy on a tanker loada fuel from the States...that sorts the fuel issue out...LMAO!

Tim

;-)

nice one timmy, we all buy a tanker full of gas, and then two days later it is all used up lol, i recon we should hijack a tanker and dig a big hole in the back of your new houses garden,
