Hello.... Well I picked up my SWB TT on Thursday in exchange for a large wedge of cash (that was painful).........

I have driven the car a fair bit over the weekend & the first thing I noticed was the fuel consumption (I did expect this so no big deal really) but it's all got me wondering if I made the right choice? I had a CRX Del Sol before & that was great fun to drive & I always got outta the car with a smile on my face! Im not feeling that with the Zed, but Im not sure why

It may be because the car will cost so much to run & that Im missing my old car too.... I know the Zed is alot faster but the enjoyment factor seemed greater in the Honda. I know I should give the car more time but Im feeling a bit down in the dumps about it at the moment.

If you could share your experiences with me & help cheer me up I'd appreciate it..... I just hate thinking that I have made a mistake! Im not saying the car isn't amazing, cos it is.... Oh what to do???

at first, its normal to very cautious of the car, and this results in a bit of a lull, give it a few drives to get your confidence up, and the rewards will be very sweet mate.

your driving a car that very few cars will beat mate, its looks are still modern, and the thrill is there, just allow you a little time to get used to it.

the 300zx is unlike any other car, as in you dont get in it 1st time and drive it as you would normally.

its wise to be a little nervous of it mate, time will give you the confidence to enjoy the car a LOT more than your old del sol mate

Go round corners (at a legal speed obviously) at speed, race people to 70 (on the motorway/dual carriage way) and just look at it - so much better than any honda. Fuel consumption is bad, but then that's all part of a performance car!

Its an indervidual thing mate. If the Zed doesn't push your buttons then maybe you should go back to the car you enjoyed more?

Not telling you to piss off by any means! If thats how it sounds. Just mean that as much as we all think the Zed is the dogs nuts that wont be the case for everyone. Give it a few sunny day summer drives and maybe you'll be hooked.

No mistakes bud, the zed's are beasts! I got a lwb tt and even though i've popped a tub, its still without doubt, the best car i've owned! And i've owned some amazing cars! Just wait till the sun comes out, the roof comes off and you can roll around with EVERYONE checkin out the ride! Always makes me grin!

Dont worry no offence taken. I am taking it cautious-ish at the moment, especially in the wet & I know in time I will get faster....... I guy did have a go yesterday in a Civic Type R.. I let hime pass me then stayed with him (easily) up to 110mph when I thought of my liscence & backed off a bit! lol......

Im sure part of it is that the Zed was to be a project & I don't have the funds to get started yet (frustrating).... But then I dont want to spend money on her if I dont plan on keeping her!

I will give it a few weeks & see how I go....... Thanks for the positive feedback guys...... Im being as objective as I can in my mind too! Maybe I just got a little attached to the old car so need time to get over it so to speak!?

i tihnk its the same with any purchase, especially second hand cars! you hand over lots of money then think "shit, have i done the right thing?"

like the others say, drive it for a few weeks, reassure yourself that the zed is the don (!) and you will soon love it im sure :)

If you have the time, spent the day cleaning it, polish and get all trim nice and clean, this will give you some pride in the car, then take her out and enjoy the drive.

find yourself a large car park, and have a little play.....

then come tell us how much you enjoyed it mate lol

Oh & the bit I forgot to mention is that when I came to the car on Saturday Eve (been stood most of the day) there was a patch of oil underneath the engine bay (dead centre) which has me worried slightly.... Car still operates fine & it doesnt seem to have leaked much since!? Any ideas? I worried this is gonna cost me a fortune!

was it def oil ?

if you hace air condtioning on, that will spill after use, thats normal

check your clutch and brake levels, make sure they are finel, and the oil level mate.

your not far from ryan at ztech, he holds an open day once a month, go along and get yourself a free check up mate

Well I don't think you'll escape the big costs these cars have, you just have to be prepared for it!

I had a FWD car that I loved before I got my Zed 2 months ago. It's only now that i've started to get anywhere near the performance limits of it and i'm beginning to realise quite how capable it is. I think when you confidence develops in the car you will have a grin on your face everytime you drive it, just like in your CRX :)

Another tip is to show the car to everyone you know. They will LOVE it and that's got to make you feel good

My aircon system leaks water after use, it is normal, as my mums new 407 coupe does it too! Is it a manual or an auto gearbox?

Just to be clear, it's not a 'leak', it's condensation that drips off the pipes etc - perfectly normal.

Is it running ok bud? You should destroy Type Rs, mine eats them for breakfast (lwb TT) so yours being SWB should be quicker again, mine leaks oil slightly but just something I put up with! I wanted a Z for about four years so when I finally bought mine I was over the moon, still am to be honest! I had a fairly heavily modded Swift GTI which was a hoot to drive but never looked back once. Just remember your driving a supercar without the price tag.

Hope the car does grow on you bud plus the fellow owners (i.e on here) are all great as well!

All the best mate, Rich

what sort of fuel consumption are you getting(these cars are not actually that bad compared to other performance cars (average low 20's, up to low 30's on steady motorway run), are you sure its running right ?

When its running right and your first few weeks of driving it, everytime you put your foot down your left breathless and buzzing.

When a zed is'nt running right..ie safety boost...or other problems its still fast, but aint half as fun.

Take it along to the Ztech open day they hold each month. Its completely free, you meet other owners and they check your car over for you, plus they are just outside swindon.

Ok well I did plenty of research before buying the car & it is boosting properly & appears to be performing fine. I should clarify that I said I let the Type R pass me & then he floored it! I easily kept with him (not trying to pass) until 110mph when I backed off as I dont wanna lose my liscence! I didnt say he blew me away although it was quick!

Secondly Im not new to cars of similar performance (owned an MR2 turbo amongst others) its not from the aircon as a) I havent had it on (bllody freezing) & b) I smelt it & it has stained (ie still visible now 2 days later)........

You are worrying me asking if its running properly.... I test drove a few & this felt the strongest of all of them!

Fuel consumption wise I put in £30 Optimax (3/4 tank) & am now down to 1/4 tank & have done just shy of 80 miles!

Driving it home I did nearly 80 miles using just under half a tank!

What mods are on the car ?

FYI i done 220 MWay miles to £40's worth of juice yesterday with most of the driving done just shy of treble figures

i put in 35 pounds of optimax drove at 80mph max all the way to liescter was on just under 3 1/4s of a tank was on 1/4 of tank when arrived did 152 miles

mines an auto with mods ecu and exhaust etc all in ovedrive off course get extra gear

Sounds like my fuel consumption may be a tad high then? Hmmmmm I dont think there are any engine mods!? Better get Ryan to take a look then!?

Spoke to Ryan he said the fuel sounds about right although O2 sensors can play up!? Anyone know anything about this!? Whilst Im on the subject I read something elsewhere about jets as an upgrade!? What is this? How much & what performance gains? Just curious.

I need to get the car checked out for peace of mind I think!

Lazy O2 sensor is a common cause of high fuel consumption. Not an expensive fix mate and Ryan can diagnose it quickly with a Conzult check..

there are a few bits you can do to the Zed for peanuts (i changed to '99 spec rear lights' for 62 pounds (60 of that for standard replacement light units) so for a couple of qiud you can change the look of the rear.Clear repeaters dont cost the earth either. As for fuel consumption you have to remember this is a 3 litre car with twin tubs-of course its gona cost you.

Mine lwb tt fuel works out at about 240 miles to a tank at steady running and about just over 200 miles with a bit of the laughing pedal (god it feels so good when you feel the boost coming in) lol

:) it took me a fortnight to really get to know my z fella now theres no going back beemers audis hondas etc etc are not in the same leauge [just my opinion ]and when you are in a convoy of z,s no matter how many the buzz is unreal :nana2:
