HOW THE FRIK CAN THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THE SAME GUY TWICE???????

OK, so heres the story..............

Que harp noise and wavey effect!

About this time last week myzed started to leek oil-BIGTIME!!!! At first i thought it maybe tranny fluid (no sexchange jokes please!) but then realised it was engine oil. It was coming from pretty much central of the car towards the front. Popped the car into a local garage who i must say have always been very good and then was informed than my rear main bearing seal was leaking. Ok ok..........hhmmmmmm let me think, gearbox and exhaust off maybe- sigh!!! yes i think so! A tenner for the seal and a couple of hundred quids worth of labour later and much swearing from the poor bugger working on my zed it was fixed!!!

Yesterday i noticed the same sensation as you do when the clutch slips in a manual but in the end just turned out to be low tranny fluid. With this cured i reversed out of my parking space at work tonight where my car has been all day and guess what??........ITS LEEKING AGAIN eek.gif!!!!!!!! FROM THE SAME PLACE!!!!!!! What i did forget to mention is that the oil that was drained out of the sump before fresh oil was put in was contaminated with petrol!!! Shit!!! So my seals gone again and im really rather pissed off!!!

I've just had yet another conversation with timmy turbo on the phone about that love/hate thing with these cars- after all the heartache they give you and all the money they cost to reapair i still stand back and look at her and think..... God you're sexy!!! i love you!!!!

Well hello to a new zed mystery ill keep you all posted on my shenanagans with my zed and i'll have to see what happens and if i can find the source of this very odd problem!!! Oh well shit happens rolleyes.gif

cant u tek it bak to the garage and say that they ant dun it right and mek them do it again with no charge

Luke if the same seal has gone again you may well have a blocked or faulty breather system that in turn is pressurising the sump, the rear seal could then be been breached by the excess pressure.

Some distant memory is saying that blocked PCV valve(s) can cause build up of crankcase pressure. But surprised it would blow again so soon. You sure the garage did the job right? Thinking outside the square - maybe its not the seal but something else leaking and running back to the seal area. Can't think what off the top o' me head.

cheers for the advice guys, my engine has only done about 20k and you can see it has had a new loom but the pcv's look a bit old! Recon i replace them and check my breather system!

Luke, the PCV valves ARE the breather system m8 wink.gif

Get the valves AND the hoses if you're doing the job - the old hoses go quite brittle and can break when you take them off - also makes the job ALOT quicker if you cut the hoses off anyway...

Shit dude you have been havina mare of it.

Yeah PCV's could cause this if they are stuck in the close position - It isn't just pressure we are talking here - but heat also - if the seal is very hard, brittle and failing due to that chance are the pressure + heat built up in the crankcase is causing rapid wear to the seal.

Otherwise some muppet probably installied the seal lipped or twisted or summint.

I would replace the PCV's + seal this time and see how it goes.

Take it easy guy.
