normally tension rod bushes especially at low speeds, speed ramps etc,if its when you hit a big divet or pothole then its most probably a shock

Nope, it is a dead cat that hid under the arch!

:nono: its cos i have to work on your car i don't get enough time to work on my own   :headvswal

could it be anything to do with the stabalizer bar?

not likely, more likely to be a shock absorber

My tension rod bushes were knocking. I changed them for poly bushes and no probs since!

Gaz, after the conversation I had with you the other night this is *not* very reassuring. Hope you get it sorted mate. Let us know what the problem is once you've found it. Great cars... but there's always something.

yes there 15years old+ there will always be something LOL

sure its not your lower control arm mate - Ive had a few of them do this

You cant tell until you undo the 2 tension bar bolts - they seem to crack under these.

bump. this is still happening but i have replaced the upper link arms and lower tension rods with powertrix fully adjustable ones. creaking and clunking still. when i replaced the tension rods the lower arms were mint so i had ruled out the cracked seat of the lower arm.

what about a pheasant?????? Dont they cause a clunking noise????

also have a quick look at the boltholes throught the lower arms where the tension rods join, one of mine was cracked causing movement and hence a nasty clunk, just a thought.

this is still happening on my z. and i still havent got to the cause of the problem. sound high up in the wheel arch and i cannot replicate it when car is stopped. it also doesnt do it all the time eg bumpy roads but a pot hole or sharp lump will cause it occasionally??!?!?

bloody odd as everything seems tight and no leaks etc!

upper arm bushes bud funny H shaped thing....just had mine replaced all noises and movement gone...put up with it for almost 9 months :D

upper arms are powertrix and so are the lower tension rods. i replaced with these to try and elimiate the problem. thanks tho

ah i see..... i got the following info off smithys place under the adj upper arm section... might help

Note: Must be used with solid/bearing type front tension rods to prevent caster play, otherwise bearings may experience excessive wear.

yep replaced them at same time. i have powertrix pillowball adjustable tension rods and powertrix bearing upper link arms. and i still get the clicking/clunking.

are there any problems generally with the upper suspension mount for the shock/spring? the rubber bit at the top? this is what im thinking it could be and is there an aftermarket replacement for it?

its possible when buying/replacing shocks you dont fit a new rubber easy to overlook that bit so maybe prudent to get some new ones cant be too expensive being a common part...they maybe the original ones on there and smashed flat after years of use
