when its cold, between 40 and 60 mph there seams to be a vibration from the rear end of the car?? when its warm it goes away any idea??

any other speeds and it dont do it cold or hot etc.

Also in 2nd and 4th gear sounds like a fan is running bad explination but air flow sounds i can hear from centre consol. when fans/heaters off this is (lol not just them i can hear). ????

part from that i love my car  :nana2:

it does it out of gear tho so i wouldnt have thought is was anything driven? i was thinking brakes binding maybe??!? as it goes away after a while and dont happen at high speeds, a bearing would get worse at high speeds?

sounds expensive :O

best get onto the mechanic then :( expensive job/labour intensive?

If it was the brakes that were binding then the b@stards would heat up as the car is going along and bind even more. Probably.

Strange how it happens out of gear too. My first guess would be diff / prop. Is it rumbling type sound and does it change at all??

 :(

yea rumbling like, gets a little faster with speed then stops completly after 60mph

check your rear wheels balancing first mine did this, also check the hicas arms, one of mine is loose and is being replaced.

as for the noise, if you take two smooth stones and rub them together does it sound like that? if so when you start the car and its in neutral can you hear it? also in all gears except 4th? if so it could be one of several things, as mine is making that noise.

when my gearbox comes off i can see if its the input shaft bearing, the lay shaft bearing or a prob with the bearbox bearings inside.

just in 2nd and 4th, and generally louder at low revs pulling hard, no dont sound like grinding etc, just like air flow? maybe its the turbos i can hear? as it does get louder the more boost.

Change gearbox and diff oil, while you are under there check for any undue side to side and up and down movement in the prop centre support bearing, the rubber around the bearing breaks up after a few years, common fault on older motors. Also as previous replies.

anyone have a part number for the bearing?? or the rubber housing, going over pit next weekend, anyone have a pic of the underside of thier zed, think i might have a go myself if i can get parts / know where it is.

im an engineer just on plant machinary, cars are a new thing for me but still the same i guess.

Mike @ MJP is our Nissan OEM parts suppler, and can supply cheaper than Nissan, without the need for a part number.

The bearing is right above the cats, you can't miss it (once exhaust is dropped). Its surrounded by a carrier bracket bolted to the chassis.

Be sure to mark up each half of the prop before seperating so you can put them back on, with the marks lining up (or it will be out of balance), and keep a check on what way the spacers go on for reassembling in same way.

Yep, that's deffo the prop-shaft. Get a new one from Mike Feeney (MJP Eastern Auto)... takes a few weeks to come through but he can get the complete thing (not just the centre bearing) for a really good price. Normally the centre bearing on its own is £140 + VAT or so, but Mike does the whole lot for two hundred and something plus VAT. Very worthwhile IMHO. I've got mine from him but not had it fitted yet as my mechanic friend hasn't had any spare time recently.
