ive stripped my wheels to paint the centers, does any one know what i should torque the bolts to? they were bloody tight to come off but they were corroded and held on with locking compound so i dont know how tight the actually were.

cheers,

when i spoke to the wheel specialist about refurbing mine, they told me your suposed to re-new all the studs once you have had them out.

i think there about 25p each as well.

I was also told that only a couple of places in the UK will refurb because once they're split it is a major problem getting them to reseal as they musy go back exactly as they came apart. Sorry to say this. I'd speek to Peter forgotten his name. I'll look it up and post it up. He's in Blackpool bigger splitrim dealer.

Here you go http://www.performancewheelsupplies.ltd.uk

Also Dave at dp has split and built loads of wheels on his race cars.

He recons that you should replace all bolts, use new rim ring seals (which Pete at above should be able to help you with) and liberal amounts of Tiger seal. Which when th wheel is clamped back together you smear the bit round the inner joint. He also reconds you'll never get em apart again though once done so get it right first time.

well its too late now cos theyre in bits, ive centre dabbed all the parts so they go together the same way, theres nothing technical about the way its sealed, its just filled with a rubbery/silicone sealant and torqued up.

would that guy in blackpool be the guy who was featured in J-tuner mag? the minilite fella?

The chap I'm going to use to recondition my Advan rims. He'll re-build them for not a lot and will mirror polish/spray whatever you want.

He's very well priced too. Not expensive like I thought it might be.

what size bolts? .that will tell you the torque setting.im putting mine back next week.u dont have to use new bolts aslong as the surface is clean .i rebuild f1 split rims all the time and they are very much the same as road ones

bolts look about 8mm, from what i can remember off hand, and theyre high tensile.

funnily enough ive just picked the centres up from the powder coaters, theyve done a lovely job! awesome work!

gonna put them together tommorrow.

they cant go on that tight, because theres only 5 bolts at 65ft/lbs to hold the whole wheel on so 50odd bolts cant be very tight seeing as the loads shared between them

magic! thats roughly what i thought, im gonna fill the outside with silicon like it was when i took it apart, the flanges are spotless and there was no sealent on them at all just a big bead where they meet.

i marked the mating faces before i split them so jobs a goodun.

just need to ream out the outer rims to fit the schraeder air valves.

and im not using locking compound because theyre HT bolts and the nuts have locking grooves on them anyway, they wont fall off when their torqued properly.

thanks for the help!
