Mine are excellent. I think there's lots out there with sized calipers, knackered lines, shagged pads and fooked discs.

Mine aren't that good, but I'm sure a rebuild, new set of pads and a flush would make them much better. I've been in zeds with good brakes. But like most things, the brakes are coming up to 15 or so years old and I bet the ones that aren't that good have never had a rebuild.

disc's are too small, heats the fluid, sh1t cart happens

simple physics ,to small a disc for too heavy a car, imagine a small angle grinder try and stop with your hand not much surface pressure to do it with, imagine a big brick cutting grinder more to grab hold off and easyier to stop,

the calliper on a 300 is quite good ,larger disc are a must, larger wheels to take the disc ,bigger clamping force with 6 pot callipers job done, now you have the brakes they should have put on when they were built

yep discs are too small, only car iv had with awesome brakes standard was bmw m3, but even they cooked after a 10 minute thrashing with lots of braking :(

need pennies then i shall upgrade the brakes, drilled n groved all round hopefully 6 pot if you can get them for zed ??

Stock brakes, in good condition are pretty good, still giving similar braking figures of modern cars....although most zed brakes are not in good condition with worn discs and sticking caliper pistons.

But like everything, they can be upgraded.

Stock sized aftermarket discs can offer better heat disipation and you can get much grippier pads. A bigger setup makes the real difference though.

My brake are very good. They stop the car just as they should. I had new pads put on them before xmas and it stops just fine now.

If everything is working perfectly the brakes are 'good enough' for the road. However, a better set of brakes (mine are off a 350Z) make a big difference.

High quality DoT 4 fluid (racing boiling point, but not DoT 5) is well worth having too. Changed every two years. Fade is not fun but I've never had it on my 300.

Agreed with ya Craig!!

Mine are excellent too considering i'm still on stock discs on a uk J plate!!!! My housemate owns an 02 Civic Type R which looking at them uses the same size discs on a much lighter car... My Z is running on decent Mintex Motor Sport pads and will easily out break his Type R from 100-0 by about 1.5 Z Car Lengths!!! Fact!!! ABS-ing it foot hard to the floor all the way!!

Nissan would not deliberatly fit Crap brakes to there ultra modern high-tech, high performance sports car even back then... :nono: It's just age with these cars now...

I'm still on stock brakes and they were great when running factory power as nissan intended, a good set up for stock power when functioning properly.

However, once you up the power the brakes certainly feel the strain if you drive the car hard. My next mod is deffo going to be a brake upgrade, especially once I start taking her to the track this summer.

Stopping is far more important than accelerating!!

Andy

brakes when new on a new car would out break the same era M3 ..that should put it into perspective , the same calipers are used on scoobies to this day . upgrade to biggerdiscs and porterfield pads and the zed will stop on sixpence and give you change back

The only complaint I have is when braking down from a high speed in an emergency, the ABS reaction is violant. The first time I experienced it, I stopped the car and checked the wheel nuts for tightness. Apart from that I think they are acceptable for normal road use.

My brakes are rather intermittent! On some days they work great, no matter what the condidtions. And other times, I get jack sh1t stopping power. Doesnt matter if its hot, cold, wet or dry!

Gonna change the fluid and check for sticking calipers when I get back home.

17 days left in this sh1t hole!!

So true.

The ZX is a heavy fast car so the weight takes its toll on the brakes over the years. Stock set-up when they are in good condition will stop the car more than safely. Get the calipers overhauled, re-fill with decent fluid then even a stock-sized disc upgrade with decent pads will be more than enough to bring the car to a safe halt from 100+

If you have Macca-style power then spend the money on a full conversion.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
