No3 cylinder

If i remove coil conector no engine note change,(have tried other coil packs of Chunk(cheers mate)still same,so,having put in new plugs recently i took no3 out,was very white, but piston top not look dry more dampish, put another plug in,still same,so while engine running check spark from coil ,was ok(Chunk was witness :) ) so me thinks injector, just been to check it(screwdriver to ear etc)and its clicking away,if i take off injector conector it still clicks but lower note(unless i imagining things),car has new loom from ecu and series 2 PTU,any ideas or things to check further! i normaly have plenty patience but its bloody testing me and its soddin freezin out :(

try a compression test.

Seen this before couple of times and it was due to low(er) compression on a particular cylinder

yep as lymon says compression check that cylinder

if you have replaced ptu,checked/changed plugs/coilpacks and injector plugs, then compression test is the next step,if compression is within spec, check all the above again

Sounds promising then, less compression more boost  only kiddin

Thanks for info, will see what happens with it.

could still be the injector, its just the solenoid that clicks, doesnt ness mean its injecting!

if the plug's white that suggests running lean. and id tend to check out the injector a bit further. but doing a compression test will take no time, and do no harm.

it could just be the NRV in the injector thats ticking and not the solenoid.

yep dont need a lot mate

another idea,is a leaking injector insulator or o-ring,but then you would normally have a strong smell of fuel and unburnt fuel entering the zorst/s

the o-ring wouldnt cause the injector to leak fuel, it would only draw air in making the mixture in that cylinder leaner

Tony other than that how is the car in general mate?

Well thats the thing, goes bloody great when its warmed up,no smoke, bit of a pop pop intermitent from left bank exhaust, due to No3 prob,as quick as my others, more responsive actualy, prob due in part to Fidanza fly wheel and Underdrive pulley and aircon stripped out, tubs kick in quick, same as the Sport 500s suppose.Boost is anyones guess, not got it turned on,and aftermarket boost gauge needs sortin, not got the HKS SAFC on either, mainly becouse it dont power up  will in time tho :) just them kind of niggles, not realy opend it up,glad of that with this No3 trouble.Think its best looking one i have had,did not think i would like silver as much, not in ya face as Donna would say :)

Just had my front bumper repair done, WRX Paint in Daventry, did a brilliant job considering it was very badly split under lip and on top lip with bits missing,

all in with paint £100,highly recomend them.

Heres a pic

ps when you up for your prelim TOTB rounds

Would that maybe cause less smoke at idle,as the right bank puts out more, and left bank less with intermittent poppop pop poppop .

hi tony, just read about your problem. if you follow my entry on 'firing on 5' you will see i had the same problem. my comp.test was good and although you could hear the injector it still turned out to be the problem.sorry mate.

If its just the injector i will be  ,will know more soon.

ok well if the injector insulator is cracked,it will cause a cylinder to drop, aswell as unburnt fuel entering the exhaust,so this should be looked in to aswell

just fixed a customers car with this exact problem!

oh and damaged o-ring/s especially the lower o-ring/s can cause fuel leaks leading to similar symtoms as mentioned above ;)

If its just the injector i will be  ,will know more soon.

Hi, tony sorry to here you have a problem, the venoms you have don't get a good rating in the usa where they come from. maybe best to upgrade to nismo in future, anyways hope you solve the problem and good luck.

Hi Baz,if its an injector then not too woried, any injector make can have its problem at some time,at end of the day i did not buy a Z expecting perfect every day running, had problems more or less with every one i have had,but for an old car like they are now i take it with a pinch of salt,if i wanted boring mainstream i'd get a Focus :D .One upside is its a learning curve that never ends and one mans trouble/questions is anothers answers, when there spot on theres nothing like it when WOT ;)
