Personally i love TVR's but yes they will break down

However i think if you look after it right it'll be as good as any other car.

And besides that is the Zed not also prone to a breakdown again unless it's well looked after that is

very very important thing to consider about tvrs, is what put my old man off buying one. the only place thatll work on them is a tvr garage, tvr dont sell parts to anyone at all. so even if u need something small doing, you wont find the parts anywhere but a main tvr dealer. i mean if moneys no issue than i doubt thats a problem. but they aint cheap to fix!

interesting. this is the problem i`m having......i have not met anyone who has stuck their neck out and supported a TVR however the tuscun S is so appealing. Any views on their performance.....will definately PM Dark warrior.

The look nice and go well I imagine.

Don't new TVRs not have a warranty? I would imagine it wouldn't be the most practical car.

get in contact with IPAddis he owns a tvr and would probably be able to help from an owners point of view

all the best

I did some research into Tuscans as I too was interested in purchasing one, pistonheads was a great resource for doing this.

In short I found out that the speed 6 engine should be touched with somebody elses bargepole - it will fail sooner or later and be very costly to fix. There was also very little in the way of specialist who could competantly work on them in my area, those who did exist charged 400 quid or so for a basic service.... owners say that they rarely get away with just the basic service as something usually needs replacing (Catylitic converters seemed a popular one).

I went to look at a non S tuscan locally, was up for £30k, had 18k on the clock and UI was told that it was on its second engine rebuild (guy seemed to use this as a selling point!), the speedo had come unglued inside the housing and the driver side window didnt work.... not very impressive tbh.

great looking cars, sound GREAT!, go like stink but will break down A LOT more than your Z! 1 of my lecturers at uni use to work at TVR and he said he would never buy one!

I used to visit TVR in Blackpool years ago to maintain some of their machines, looked a right sh1t hole inside(fibreglass resin was spilt everywhere) but the end results were amazing  Loved watching the tubular chassis being made up, quality work. Shame it all went to a fat-cat Russian like Chelsea F.C. did :x:

I can't see why one would break down any more than a zed, zeds are hardly the last word in reliability. Also they are tucAn's ;)

a Tucan is abird isnt it ?? dont you all mean Tuscan :) they are quick sound fantastic but only drive one if its somebody elses ...they will take your shirt off your back and drop to bits .....the only one worth having for reliability is the newest one as the QA QC has been drastically improved .

hmm, in future when im being pedantic I should make sure i spell it right myself lol

A good friend of mine has run a Tuscan S for about a year as his daily drive (!) and I've yet to hear him stop going on about how wonderful the car is. He's not had problems with TVR garages for services and as far as I know has only broken down ones and that was due to a flat tyre.

New TVRs are a lot more reliable since the Russian took over the management of the company and they actually come with a decent warranty now.

Although I wouldn't class it as a supercar as such its looks and performance are out of this world. I'd have one if I had the cash. You need to make sure you've got sufficient budget for regular maintenance and a contingency fund at your disposal before you buy one of these machines.

I heard that when they changed from the Rover engines to TVRs own that 75% of them needed a rebuild? Someone I knew had one and it went like stink though and looked and sounded amazing. I reckon all the scousers nick the parts and thats why they all break down!

Also they are tucAn's ;)

Nope, they are TuScAns.......lol PMSL

I was heading out of Clacton on Sat and in a layby were what looked like a man and wife, in matching yellow TVR's...how sad!!!!!!!!!

Nope, they are TuScAns.......lol PMSL

This is one of my dream cars, sound great, look amazing, fast, affordable considering there basically supercars, and they come in cool colours, lol. And its still knda british just owned by a russian. If i could afford one, i would get one. Maybe a bit unreliable tho. but i would still have one .
