hello all, first one is a quicky, on the left and right side of engine bay at the back are a solonoid type things with what seems to be two small vacume hoses going to them, the only reason i say solonoid is that when you rev it with your finger on the throttle pull, when it goes back to rest you can hear it click, but the passenger side doesnt? what are these and have i got a faulty one?

 

second one is slightly more complicated and has been anoying me for ages, now its getting to the point where im starting to slap the dash 'hard'.....

 

when warmed up and just sat at cruise in any gear the car splutters and coughs it almost on closed throttle, and when approaching a roundabout the twat stalls.. ive checked the clutch vacume hoses and all seems ok, i have a code 33 which i know is o2 sensor.

 

what are the most likely causes of this my good friends?

Drivers side one is for cruise control hence the click once revved, but a picture would help to make sure I am talking about the same thing as you. The only thing I can think about that is opposite is the fuel filter.

Common cause of stalling while slowing down is PCV valves. There are many other things it could be though.

yer they both look exactly the same?

Not exactly the same but cant think of anything else, maybe some others will have different ideas.

i now belive them to be E.G.R valves after looking for hours through the online manual, does this mean one is'nt working?

top of page 19 is what they look like bro..?

EGR / PCV valves, they probably havent been changed in the life of the car, best thing to do is get a kit and replace the whole system, both valves and I think 5 pipes.

the reason you have stuttering at steady speed is because of the failed o2 sensor.

what will happen if i unplug it? which side is 33?

yer it is dude? i unplugged them and no change? o2 sensors that is..

well.. after extensive questioning and endless days under the bonnet my problem is all coming from the ptu wiring harness.... when you move it about the car stalls, misfires etc.. when you get it just in the right place she runs so sweet, no more stuttering at idle and cruising is soooo smooth, she is my favorite toy agian, still got the code 33 but hey that doesnt seem to bother her at the moment.. now posted a ad in the wanted section...

The 2 solenoids are the EGR and AIV control solenoids on the drivers side (no AIV on series II+) The one on the left is the PRVR control solenoid.
