I was looking at pneumatic suspension and wondering if anyone had or was considering this. I heard that the air bags also act as a progressive spring. What you think guys?

I would be very suprised if it was available for the 300zx ?

Can't say I know much about it. Always thought it was All show, No Go and designed for comfort, not handling ?

as clarkey said, they offer no performance gains whatsoever, hydraulics adds god knows how much weight, and air bags leak and perrish and give a "floaty" ride.

coilovers for me thanks

i was thinkin of havin air bag suspention, its custom made and costs about £1k for a decent set up, i just liked te idea of been able to adjust the hieght at the flick of a switch, and ive heard ride quality isnt that bad(im not sayin its good), but ill probably just get KYBs and eibachs :D

KYB's and Eibachs for me as well. I have seen a car with the hydraulic suspension and it was quite a heavy set up.

the pic is potoshop fella

personally i love air ride. how ever, it should only be used one american classics and veeedubs. i have had air ride before on my old vw corrado, doesnt really effect handling much but it its twice the price of a set of coilovers.

My dad has always brought Citroens and i love them too. Citroen BX GTI was good, in a citroen sort of way.

But pneumatic suspension for a sports car - noo!

If yer looking for something that is not airbag or the usual hydraulic, then this fits the bill, oh and it seems Japanese too :)

You must have coilovers in order to fit this. I believe price is around a grand and seems a lot more straight forward to fit. Just thge thing to help me get on and off the ferries :smash:

cheers

Might be taking the "Roberuta" route myself (another link for you: http://www.topsecretjpn.com/roberuta.shtml) as you get the benefit of in-car adjustable ride height without having to sacrifice the handling. I made some enquiries through my mate in Japan last year but at the time the kit was a lot more than a grand. If that's now the price for a complete system I'm seriously tempted to get it as it would save going down the custom route which is what is so far being planned.

Well i've made an enquiry on price so will keep you posted on what comes back mate, same goes for you should a price come your way, i just wanna get on the bleedin boat without ripping the front of my car off

cheers

Definately will mate! :) Yup, I know what you mean. I live in the middle of traffic calming hell (had the exhaust ripped off the Sh1tter, my daily driver, the other week) and as much as I'd love to just have a top-end coilover set-up, it's just not practical around here...bloody council!! :(

Eric, thanks for that link, looks like they definately do one for the Z32 then! I ran the page through Babel Fish as most of the text was illegible...and to be honest afterwards it was still pretty illegible! Lol! ;)

It looks like they only sell a kit for the front (not a problem), that the ride height can be adjusted by 75mm (although in practice, with the camber corrected it is more like 70mm) and it should take 2 seconds to rise completely, although working from sentences like these I wouldn't stake my life on it!

Originally, Z height to be low, rubs the normal height, front bumper there was a thing which, but because it is possible, to increase the largest 7.5cm height by the fact that コレ is installed damage of the unexpected bumper and breakdown around the stomach can be evaded.

Because it is height pitch exclusive use, around the foot of normal you cannot install.

At the end of the review he recommends the system very highly as well.

Leigh

EDIT: BTW, couldn't find the plug-in needed to view what I presume are the two movies on there...

Leigh, I've got another link somewhere (also japanese) from someone that has used the roberuta's on both front and rear...he also had a much larger drop with the system in it's lowest position.(almost as low as the lowrider posted in this thread)

Will try to find the link this evening.

Unfortunately the roberuta system is VERY expensive.

anyway, here's another one, also japanese...using a pressured air based system.

yeah i did see the price lol, the roberuta system seemed perfect. was i was looking for was adjustable height with no compromise on the handling. but popular oppinion on here seem that airbags are out of the question

I wouldn't rule airbags entirley out of the equation. They won't be as good as a decent coilover set-up, that's a given, but there are companies out there that are making systems that are designed for sports car rarther than sedan rides. The best way at the moment IMO is to go for a custom four point solenoid system.

A.I.R. in the States is about to release the next gen of computer controls which gives more flexibility of adjustment and incorporates automatic levelling while on the move, a big step forward in the pursuit of better handling (they also test out their systems on the track as they are very aware that their products need to perform well in the handling department and not just for looks)

I've never considered it and never will. Just a silly car park mod to impress young-uns like neons. Serves no pupose other than that.

That blue one Kirbs has posted looks like it's been parked up with knackered suspension.

you got a link friday.

Si i know the old systems were crap and like driving a bouncy castle. i was looking for a system that was extreamly low for motorway driving and could also be raised for trafic calming *****x.

Plus a few rally teams were looking at them due to them acting as a progressive spring. so ill wait and see what hapens with these new systems. and i would like to drive a demo car before purchasing a systems for myself.

thanks for all the info guys
