Just De-catted my J spec TT today and removed the heat and Lambda sensors as they don't fit the new pipes...B4 I did this the car was running rich and my Air/Fuel gauges were all over the place most of the time. Now the guages are stable and the the Air/Fuel ratios are showing as Optimal ??

Is this meant to happen and if so why plz ?

Thanks.

The heat sensors are not a problem, however your cars ECU will be getting no info from the feed wire off the lambda sensor (which aint there as is now the case) The car to this end will not go into CLOSED LOOP as the ECU will recieve no information and will remain in a pre light off state. Basically, the car will run and show normal signs but wont actually be running itself correctly (a bit like auto choke for want of a better description)..... Get the sensors back in the front pipes some how (weld collars in) and all will be fine mate.

There are threaded holes in the new Turbo elbows but they must be the wrong thread or something as the fitter didn't fit them. The sensors and wires are still in the old(origional) turbo elbows. Didn't look closely but think he cut the wires. How come the Air fuel is showing as 'optimal' and the guages are working better ? Is this to do with the closed loop ?

Basically the ECU thinks the car is still warming up and is fuelling accordingly (Not always RICH either!), light off is when the Lambdas tell the ECU that they are ready to read the mixture and the ECU then fuels according thus sending it into a closed loop where the lambda sends the info and the ECU adjusts, this happens something like 200 times per minute (dont quote that bit but im 80% its 200). No lambdas no signal, no closed loop. as I said, the best way to describe it is like an auto choke, but it will never come off if you see what I mean? The car will show all is well............ Its NOT!

Does anyone have Megan Racing turbo elbows fitted ? I could do with knowing if the standard sensors will screw into the holes in them ??

I've got them on my car. As far as i know the O2 (Lambda) sensors should screw straight in.

Megan pipes are very popular, the sensors do fit. As said, its essential to get them refitted. Car will be running incredibly rich, affecting performance, mpg and general running.

Sorted, thanks.

The guy who fitted them pointed out to me that one of the pipes is a bit short and will not connect to the rear section of the exhaust !! This is not a major problem as I have the car booked in to have custom pipework made for the rest of the exhaust and was simply going to get the guys to make one section 1/2 inch longer. If the fitter had fitted the turbo elbows on the wrong sides would this account for this ?? Or is that not posible ???

Megan pipes from ebay ? There have been a lot of reports of poor quality Megan pipes (possibly fakes/replica's) on ebay with fitting problems. It will be a case of "making" them fit Im afraid.
