I have done a quick search and cannot find the answer I am after. :headvswal

Is it only the TTs that need to worry about detting? or will a Japanese spec N/A suffer from using cheap fuel?

Thanks in advance, Mike...

An NA engine will detonate on poor quality fuel same as a TT will depending on how it's setup.

Not sure about the 300 NA I'm afraid but it's certainly possible.

yeah, any car can! thats why they have det sensors!

always use a good quality fuel, esp on performance engines, turbo or not!

John, you mentioned before that the stock fuel map on a Zed is very rich at top end. Were they set up like this to prevent detonation?

Would a custom remap enable me to use cheap fuel? or should I stop being such a tight @rse and just stick with the Optimax?

Thanks again...

You can use Superunleaded or Tesco 99 ron petrol without getting pre-ignition (detonation) or 'pinking' as it is commonly referred to, but if you want to use the standard unleaded, you would have to retard your ignition which would certainly affect performance.

I've run NA's for the past 7 years on any fuel I can get (Morrisons) - and never had any problems - mind you, Tesco 99 ron's the best...
