well as some of you know i blew my intercooler up last month.

i decided to take my intake pipes off to get her home this weekend (turning her into a n/a!)

turned her on and started fine, went to pull off and the engine started hunting up and down.... put my foot down, went to about 3000rpm... started to cough and then cut out..

now she will start but just, and then cuts out after a while of strugling.

anyone have any idea's? im quite clued up on cars but this has got me 100% stumped! :headvswal

AFAIA you can't run without your pipes attached! It's to do with the fuel / air mixture and the ECU, basically what happeneds is exactly what you described. This happened to me when I had complated my 60k service, i didn't have my pipes on as I was awaiting the new hard pipes to turm up, but wanted to check that the engine was working OK, it stuck up, then ran OK for a few seconds, then as you described coughed and spluted, then stalled! Once I tried to start it again it wouldn't want to know. But once I got the hard pipes and installed them it worked fine.

Bonus! hope this sorts it then.......... but it was doing somethink similar before i removed the pipes, but i have put this down to the right hand intercooler being fooked....... does this sound about right?

or am i looking at somthing bigger?

Brett,

I had the same thing when I fitted my Apexia and BOVS. I wanted to try out them out to see if they worked so left a couple of the hoses off. Strted fine, then cut out and sometimes wouldnt start or when it did, coughed a spluttered about.

Sounds to me that it could be a hose problem, but I am not very experienced with the Z.

Nearly got it back on the road again m8?

Was quite gutted last night........... and to make maters worse my 1973 jag decided to dump all its water on the way back from glasgow!

Im hoping that if i re-fit my pipes and limp it home (or get the AA to give me a lift!) and get my new itercooler fitted then ill be sorted!

pipes will be the prob only time u can get the engine to run without them is if u have engine management fitted which dosent use the maf ect
