I now have a wireless modem and want to set up my PC, laptop (if it works) and XBox, what do I need? I have checked PC and I do not have an ethernet socket :headvswal: I hope to connect the modem to the XBox and run the PC and Laptop wireless, I assume I need network cards for the computers?

Yup you will need wireless cards for PC and laptop, but you will also have to be able to plug it in with a wire to one of them as well. This is do you can set up the wireless settings before that works!

Best to keep things all the same make as well as its more compatible.

Any suggestions on wireless cards? I have an AOL Speedtouch wireless modem if that helps?

I've got a pair of D-links in my PC & they're fine. but Belkin, Cisco etc are all top makes.

i got a belkin from argos, 25quid, works just great

Belkin are the best in my opinion... but you will need a machine with a network port to set the router up initially...

Plug in the router (with built in modem..), connect a laptop to it with a network cable and get it connected tot he net.

 

Then you need to set up MAC address filtering so that only your PC's can connect and WEP so that your data is encrypted. You will need networks cards in all your PC's and make a note of the MAC addresses to add into your router. You will also need to input the HEX code from your WEP configuration into each PC config.

 

After that it is simple...
