wow, i decided i'd do it on the Laptop instead of the mobile :)

Any guesses as to what it was?

on a serious note of course :(

The only mods are manual conversion (if that counts), air filter from DTA, BOV's

And the timing is aparently at 25 instead of 15

come on, guess away

Sounds to me like the same problem I had and it smells like timing!!

I bet everything is working smooth and no engine problems, only the car goes slow?!? I know for sure on the day I advanced my CAS I was a happy man lol, the difference was unbelievable and even though I was told to put it back where it was or risk getting the engine blown up, I still tinkered with it as it just felt more like a sports car and never had any problems like detonation or whatever......

If I were you I'd get the timing looked at, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING!!!!!!

Presumably your timing was retarded and you have set back to how it should be.

Bird's is currently 10 degree's advanced at idle, but until we know more information, like ECU sensor readings and the idle rpm this reading was at, it would be very dangerious to make adjustments, especially advancing.

It was returning a temp sender error code. At the time of reading, the water temp was shown as 80-85C with the idle being approx 780rpm.

9.17 on the first run and 9.88 on the second

Blimey mate, :( my N/A was 6.9 before I fitted the L/W pulley etc. As people have said though plenty of room for improvement.

  • 2 weeks later...

bird

mines massively out on timing too and running slow(apparantly) have you sorted it yet and what have you tried? more importantly how much did it cost???

don't mind spending a bit on my heap as it seemed a bargain when i got it and then you find out why it was so cheap. D'OH, plus i need a new bearing on prop-shaft, oh well live and learn.

whoa..whoa..whoa...if base timng is 25 degree's your going to blow it up into a million little pieces!! Either that or you were doing 0-60 runs when engine was cold !?

send me those gauge screendumps, or post them up bud

search...this has been discussed before and is not a major problem

eg: http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=51998

Check the P/N (neutral gear) sensor/wiring.

This is a common problem that happens when the car has been converted from auto to manual and they "forgot" to wire the neutral switch sensor from the gearbox to the ECU.

This causes the timing to be 25BTDC instead of 15BTDC (at idle only)

Christ - you're timing is 10degrees too advanced and you're doing 0-60 runs???

More money than sense I reckon ;)

Hopefully the problem is just at idle as Lymon suggests, or you're lucky it's not detting its arse off.
