I am looking at some minor mods in spring to push up power a bit on my 92 UK TT.

I assume the first thing is to change exhaust. Then intake to hi flow etc. Is the intake upgrade a DIY job ? Do you need to change any sensors or settings ? (excuse my ignorance) or is it like a Bill Gates O/S Plug 'n' Pray!

Assumming these two mods what sort of net bhp increase could I expect.

And more importnantly whats the next logical step after exhaust/intake ?

And I thought 276bhp would be enuf .....

well the exhaust should net around 20 hp and the intake also aroun 17 to 20 hp

to do the intake is really easy as i did the hks one myself (and believe me if i can do it anyone can)

after that i think an ecu upgade is the next step. that should net some decent hoprespower.

then an unorthadox pully / bigger injectors/ larger intercoolers/ bigger turbos and you are on your way.

an average 300zx tt should make about 225bhp on the wheels, exhaust / intake / ecu should take that upwards of 300 bhp on the wheels (i stand to be corrected)

I would go with the intake and exhaust as you have mentioned.

There is quite a selection to choose from with both of these.

Best intake choice would be either JWT, Blitz or HKS. These will give you maximum airflow combined with good filtration.

With your Z being a 1992 model, you may not legally be able to remove the cats when you fit the exhaust system (depending on what month your Z was registered) Removing the cats is always an advantage as they restrict air flow.

You can go for a full race exhaust like Tooley, Johnny and myself (noisy) or maybe a Greddy cat back which is just about as quite as the stock system.

These upgrades will benefit the airflow in and out of the engine which means your Z will be ready for a moderate increase in boost pressure. This is where the real hp comes from.

With the increased boost you will need an eprom upgrade which I would recommend the JWT ecu upgrade.

Your Z will happily run 14psi boost with this setup providing the turbo's are in good condition.

This would increase the engine power output from the UK restricted 280hp for a manual to around 360hp-380hp.

Intake 15bhp

Exhaust 20bhp

Eprom upgrade 20bhp

Boost upgrade 45bhp

If you Z is an auto then the factory power output would be less than 280hp as this is for the manual. The power on the auto's was reduced to allow a silky smooth interaction with the gearbox.

I would anticipate £1300-£1500 would give you a nice usable power increase.

Thanks for the info guys.

I assume the intake is a straight swap with no other changes to sensors/settings etc needed ?

Glenn

The stock airbox need to be removed and you'll probably need a hacksaw to cut the lower brackets. You can't acces them with the bumper in place and it's certainly not worth trying to remove it.

Disconnect the baterry when you fit the air filter and this will reset the ecu.

That's all you need to do!

Steve

You can remove the stock box with a lot or forcing to squeeze it out. That how I did mine after advice from Jim at JWT.

Although this could damage the stock box, you wont want to go back to stock after the upgrade, but may wish to return it to stock for re-selling etc?

Unfortunatly my cars getting more and more difficult to do that!

This isn't the Glenn that use to work at Autofile in Slough - is it?

Glen.

If you contact me I will send out to you a Z32 Power application list.

HKS / Blitz / Nisno / Stillen / AP Racing / Brembo etc etc.

Jez - No

Johnny - Thanks I'll do that, now bakc to getting my wife to orgasm long enuf for a boost controller ....
