just got some veilside split rims and i want to give them a clean up as someone has painted them.

is it a good idea to split them or is it best to leave them alone.

has anyone done this before????

My advise after recently doing mine is to pay someone to do them

It would also depend on what style wheel they were

Mine were old comprotive three piece with the centers painted

the centers were easy to do as I had access to a blaster but the outer rims I wanted to polish and at the end of each day I looked like a bloody panda a black face with white rings arround the eyes

took me something like two and a half days (thats without the couple of days removing all the paint)

the finish turned out quite good but not as good as if I sent them off to be done

weigh up how much your time is worth and it is far better to pay to have then done

I took mine Enkei split wheels to be refurbished and they reckon that if you split them, it causes a lot of problems when trying to reseal them. The difference in price between to split or not to split was £120 per wheel.

a mate of mine can clean them but not sure to split them what seals them together??

normaly a gasket seals the rim after undoing loads of bolts.
