On the wifes TT zed, it takes ages to warm up. When eventually warm heater doesnt really blow hot.

After stopping I can put my hands on the radiator and its warm but not hot.

Does this sound like stat is stuck open?

Featured Replies

Quite possibly. I changed mine it it went from a 5 mile warm up to about 2 miles.

cheers bud, could that cause the heat in the cabin to not be as warm even when engine temp is reading half way or does that sound like a poss blocked core in the matrix?

change the thermo but bleed it prop you dont want over heating problems because you coulnt be arssed

Gee, Thanks Matthew :smash:

If the car has had a top end bypass (pipes removed under the plenum) they do run cooler and take longer to warm up, but definitely check your thermostat.

well it took about 7 miles to reach half temp.

If you dial in 19-21 Deg on the A/C heater you get a mildly warm airflow coming through the centre console - and it is mild.

Any higher temp you put in switches it to blowing cold on the screen.

sounds like wat i had on mine dude and sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but mine was a knackered matrix...

hope yours is just a thermostat tho...

cost doesnt bother me :) I have a spare Zed with a perfect matrix.

Just the labour of ripping it all apart :(

If the matrix is not leaking why not try and flush it through, if possible that is. If your engine coolant is clean, and you have never suffered a headgasket failure, which would put crap in the system, then try it. Also is the valve which controls the flow of water to the matrix working properly.

ummm, dunno, dunno and dunno

I'll have a little look and see if coolant is clean

If it is I'll try a flush

May replace stat as I have a spare one of them anyways.

No leaks :)

I'd go with a early opening or stuck Thermostat or a missing one!

Would cause low heat output from matrix as well! and you did say the Radiator was barely hot!!

When i got my Zed the heater was cool on 35c or 25c and my engine took ages to get to one third of the temperature gauge!

When i changed my Cam Belt i removed the thermostat housing only to find there was no thermostat present!

Fitted a new one and now i have a hot heater when needed and a halfway reading Temperature Gauge after a few mile's :)

Not sure whether i read once that you could use a primera matrix which is exactly te same and should save mucho dollares
