I am stuck with too many choices. I will be looking to change my 206 for a bigger company car. I get paid an allowance and mileage for the car from my work, but for me to really benefit from it I need to get >35 mpg. But I dont want anything that I struggle to overtake with. So here is what I am looking for:

- Something with up to 180 bhp

- Must be comfortable and of decent size (at least the size of a golf/focus)

- Price Range of up to 12k

- Within 6 years old

- >35 mpg

- Nothing too expensive to run and maintain as I could be up to 30k/year mileage.

- Cant be an insurance killer as I am just a baby at 21.

Please help me choose a car guys, I have 3 months to decide. Unless I get an NA 300zx with LPG

Its 3 months time or so I will be buying so its a bit too soon for me. Also dont think I will get the MPG off a 2.5 V6. But if I could then thats the car for me.

A3 is a good choice, BMW servicing costs etc could put me out.

I think the alfa is a good choice, I will be looking at one to soon.

im sure "swiss chunky" could rustle something up for you.. as him.. lol

you can have my hyundai accent coupe mvi, :wack:

cheap insurance

cheap to run

does 38mpg

6 years old

easy within £12k

decent size(just)

unfortuneatley its not 180bhp but is quite nippy

i know its not company car material but it was worth a shot :headvswal :headvswal

244bhp!!? bloody hell..mind you VWs worked wonders with skoda since they took over

saab 9-3 low pressure turbo?

otherwise...go down the alfa road, lovely cars and if its a company car it doesnt matter as much when it breaks!!

After i got a golf GTtdi i would recommend them :)

mine comes standard with around 150 bhp and ive had it modded to about 175 bhp and put it this way on the motorway the other day i was having a little play with an M3 cab and upto 130 leptons he couldnt pass me :) well chuffed and he looked really pi55ed off lmao

Yep- Golf GTtdi.

Stupendous economy, reasonable power but it's the torque that gets you! Over 200 or something isn't it?

2 mates of mine bought them recently. Top cars.

Anything with a modern turbo diesel lump. Should get close to the BHP you want, heaps of torque and 45+ mpg !

yeh well over 200 pounds of torque and it really does pull well and yes i get 40+mpg how ever i drive it lol

how do you get that? I only get 28 mph out of a diesel 406 :headvswal

Have to second this too

Well built, fine engines and very good performance combined with decent fuel economy. Forget the French diesels as VW/Audi have got them bang on .

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I noticed that most saabs I seen advertised are turbos, reliablility issue?? I do like the look of them and buying a few years old like the Alfa, you can pick up a very nice one for much cheapness.

3 out of the 5 Engineers in my work (me being one of the others) all have GT TDi golfs, driven one of them and liked the inside etc, but his engine wasnt running all that well. The Golf and Audi a4 est 1.9 tdi is top of the list at the moment but it depends when I test drive. Closely followed by Alfa and Saab, and maybe even Volvo.

Think I may add a poll thread in and see what everyone thinks

new mini cooper ??

ok ,.....i was wrong ...but it is cold out here -25 and my brain isnt working to well

seat leon cupra R perhaps ??

Volvo S60 D5 average about 44 to the gallon leather and loads a of toys. Handles well and about 160 bhp, but you can get the sports chip for £380 fitted by Volvo tuning and that bumps it up to 230bhp and still 40+ to the gallon.

Or a nice Volvo C70 T5 will do 40 to the gallon on the motorway at 80mph averages about 25mpg, but 250bhp standard and more torque than a fish wife and £430 you can have it Rica chipped at Volvo tuning and hey presto 320bhp, 430 pounds of torque and better fuel comsumption than before.

Rocketship armchair. With the Rica chip it'll wee on most Porsches pre 997
