I'm not sure how many of you know about the zed that I bought last October but here goes anyway.

I bought my car from a trader in Bedford on an 93' plate with 53000 miles (when converted). The car began to cause me problems on the way back home so i got back and made enquiries as to what it could be. After some research it was established that the tubs had gone....great.

I then requested the money back from the trader which he refused. Actually he refused to help at all saying he knew his rights.

Deciding I needed to take things further I had the car fully inspected by Jeff at Zedworld. We discovered problems with the suspension and HICAS that would have constituted an MOT failure....and it was sold with MOT!

As the work wasn't too expensive and I am definately naive with regards to legal matters I endeavoured to get the work done privately and pay myself.

Today.....Mark from turbosport calls me (he was in the process of putting my new tubs on) and says that there is no compression in one side of the engine ie. piston damage, cracks and possible melting! He is going to take the head off and but reckons between £800 and £2000 is realistic just for the rebuild then the turbos will be on top £1500...then I have to pay Jeff for the suspension work.........

Basically I will end up paying nearly £9000 for this car....HELP!

I really really wanted a Zed and thought I'd made the right choice with this car.

I have driven approximately 250miles in it.

So...in tears as I will be shortly do I...

Pay for the repairs

Proceed legally (I have a reciept for the car and Jeffs reports)

Scrap the car :x:

Sorry to drone on I'm just so gutted it hurts.

Rob

Sorry to hear this mate :(

Kind of makes me mad - dealers have an obligation to their customers to sell a product fit for the purpose it was sold for.

Now against my normal principles here, I would get in touch with a "no win no fee" solicitor (I feel dirty saying that) and take the scum to the cleaners.

Good luck mate

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Can I use no win no fee in this instance? That would be good for me.

Rob

How long have you had the car? Same story with my engine, except I've not approached the trader I bought mine from.

Si, mate

Whatever was wrong with your Z when you bought it not only got past you, but past Gio and I too :(

At the time, the dealer (Lee, wasn't it?) seemed pretty genuine but it just goes to show you never can tell. Although that Scooby he had supposedly just sold sounded like a right bag of spanners......

Have you seen the latest ZX he has for sale - definately one to avoid IMO, but yours seemed a good genuine example.

It proves now that there are very few good ZXs left in Japan for importing here so the lesson for new buyers is don't.

Buy a "known" example from someone here or a car imported a few years back, when there were some good ones left - which should now have all the history since they've been in the UK

And I thought that used car dealers were supposed to have cleaned up their act

Richard :)

if you can't then I can't...I never even got a warranty with mine.

Rob

Actually Rob, all car dealers have to offer some kind of warranty now - even a basic 3 month "we will fix it for you" type thing.

Sue the b@stard mate - reckon you have a good case.

Richard :)

Cheers Richard, I'm starting to feel mildly comforted by all the kind advice you people have given me.

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress and hope to see you all in the future when I finally get a good Zed.

Thank god I didn't sell my trusty MG ZR.

Regards

Rob

a few year ago i bought an s13 200sx from a dealer in sheffield i paid £1200 plus i traded in another car.

id had the car about a week and had to take it back for the alarm fixing.

after that it was never right engine wise and got worse, i got a crypton tuner out to diagnose the problems, it had a sticking valve, took it in to get it sorted it had 2 sticking valves, cracked piston, and SNAPED crankshaft twas fooked,

anyway got it fixed, but car was never the same again and about 3 months after buying it i decided to trade it in at a different dealer

was then that i found out the car was WROTE off 2 year before i bought it.

anyway after a lot of argueing and the threat of legal action i eventually got my money back and the car i traded in.

i got some support from the local trading standards. so maybe give them a call see where you stand.

soory for going around the barn instead of through the front door but i thought it might be of intrest

Thanks for that...sorry to read about your tints by the way. Don't worry your car still looks awesome.

Rob

I would advise both of you to get in touch with the Trading Standards Department local to the trader involved, who will also tell you your rights and also if there are other cases in process. If so they would be interested in your details as well, as you would be able to contribute to their prosecution. They will also tell you the best way to proceed.

got my zed from a trader and found out very soon it wasnt fit for the road at the time of sale.

contacted trading standards who were very helpful, and to cut a long story short i got back all my expenses.

you do need to send him letters stating your problems, give him the chance to repair/sort it, but if no joy begin with small claims. IIRC its £80 initially to "present" the case then a further £100 to recive a court date if the "defendant" wants to go to court.

my car was "sold as seen", which apparently a trader by law is not allowed to do this as they are attempting to restrict your rights as a buyer. the chances are this guy knows this, but knows that most people dont know this (if this makes sense), so nine times out of ten he will use this as a means of escape from any problems the buyer may have.

my advice is to deffinitly ring the trading standars who should be able to help you alot.

hope you sort it bud - gaz.

Hi gaz

Didn't think you were about anymore!

My car is the one I talked to you about in October if you remember! I took your advice and Jeff looked at it for me...it completely fooked!!!

Went to the solicitors today they're confident and put the fear of God into the MOT station as well.

Did you sell your car mate? I'll keep everyone posted as it may help people in future.

Thanks for the support

Kind Regards

Rob

i bought Gaz's car badger, and u definitely get what u pay for, i have 4k's worth of receipts from TOP Z specialists, which sold the car to me.. without a sound engine for me a car is not worth having, and gaz's car had just that... 1500 quid later and the work gaz started is being carried on, and YES I AM TAKING CARE OF IT FOR YA MATE... lol..

all the best, and i hope u get your problems sorted out mate..

Sorry to hear of your problems, can't help you with the legal side. But, it's amazing that lots of garages that sell import zeds seem to have about 53000 miles on the clock! Now the Zed has a very strong engine and for it to be in the state yours is in, it most probably is clocked, and because its jspec its difficult to find any understanable service history. Sorry to rant on but I have seen problems like yours a few times now, 53000 miles on the clock and blows engine or turbo within a few months of buying, very suspicious!

I've noticed that as well you're definatelt not ranting!!! Seems odd that all UK cars of the same age are heading for 100k miles plus and the jap imports are all below 60k miles some claiming to be 20k miles.

Seems somebody needs to expose these t***ers for what they really are! I've learnt my lesson well and will now be looking for a car with history!

If anyone is interested my solicitor says that we should have no trouble getting the money back...I even have the original ad for the car which clearly advertises the car as being in excellent condition throughout LOL!!!

Lets hope...I love these cars!

Hopeful

Rob

good luck dude...be worth looking here for your next car...
