Ever since I put on a different set of alloys on my Zed the steering wheel vibrates above 50mph. The alloys were from another zed so they are the correct fittment. I went to get the front tyres balanced today and to my astonishment both front tyres have severe wear (smooth as hell) on the inside wall. The rear are fine. I got them balanced but the vibration is still there and now even when I brake I can feel more steering wheel juddering. So annoying its unbelievable. I was going to get it tracked but thought I would ask you guys first for your opinions.

Any ideas what this can be ?

Thanking you all in advance.

If worse when braking-brake discs warped, also check tie rod bushes(the big un' at the front)for cracks/splits and movement.

Whilst up in the air wobble wheels to see if bearings/t/r/ends etc are o.k.

Well, if I go over 50mph the steering wheel vibrates. If I brake the steering wheel vibrates !

Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst, could it be just tracking ?

damaged alloy wheel i had a damaged alloy wheel and it vibrated above 50mph or low tyre tread,or what manta said above

Thanks Manta, Greg & Hellraiser ! I owe you both a drink at the next club meet.

Speedemon, you and I may as well meet and have a good cry.

By the way, how can I tell if the wheels had it ? Does this also mean I don't need to track the car ? Or shall I do tracking and see ? Can someone put in a good word above into the heavens as I need a miracle now !

Why does it have to my Zed ?

Shall I buy a Supra ?

Lonely & Confused.

Check that the plastic hub adapters are fitted, if not get some from a wheel supplier because without them the wheel centralizing is relying on the studs to pull the wheel on correctly, which they will not, and hence vibration.

as jeff says, check for a small tapered ring that sits on the hub flush to the brake discs.

do you have any adjustable parts on the suspension??? camber arms, tension rods etc... is the car lowered???? are the alloys you put a different size??? and what is the tyre profile compared to the others????

No adjustable parts on the suspension or camber arms or tensions rods.....yes the car is lowered very slightly with Eibach springs....

hmm, that could be one of the factors why you have inside wear on the tyres, too much negative camber caused by suspension lowering, You can get a camber correction kit, or get some adjustable upper links. I'm not saying run out and buy the upper arms, but it might be an idea to have the camber checked or get a proper laser alignment done, seeing as its wearing on the inside, would indicate uneven contact area due to excessive negative camber.

I agree it's not ideal but the wear is even which doesn't bother me too much.

I'm more concerned of the juddering than anything else and do want to get it sorted.

Hoping too very soon.........
