My mate (300zx owner) has got a slight problem and has asked me if I know what it might be. The steering seems notchy (50p piece syndrom) and is quite heavy at low speeds. I would not suggest to him that it seems obvious that the PAS system is at fault because I dont know. So I said I would ask you guys.

Any Ideas or suggestions that I can ring him back with would be much appreciated and you never know we might get a fresh member?

Thanks in advance

has it been delimited via a behind the clocks black box m8? (could be faulty)

as the steering is connected to the speed sensor

ie if the speedo stops working the pas goes tits up

I would check the power steering pump. Check the power steering reservoir for amount of oil level. Also look at the pipes to see if there are any obvious leaks. Low revs and hard steering normally leads to a dodgy pump.

Try the electrical connection to the steering rack, its black connector block.

pull apart and clean terminals. this gives me trouble from time to time
