Thought you might like to see my ZX chasing a mate's 911 Turbo on a little track in France.

 

I've got 340bhp (Swiss Nissan main agent tuning) and the carbon-kevlar brake pads (from Smithy :cool: ). For track use, the brakes definitely need more cooling – they were almost on fire at times...

 

If you click to the right of the video on the blue text "more from this user", you'll see what I normally used on track, though that got written off going over the edge on a mountain pass last October. The replacement is going on the road in March: Lotus Exige Cup with 265bhp supercharger. Can hardly wait!

My 300ZX twin Turbo (340bhp) struggling to keep up with a 420bhp 911 Turbo for a lap of the Anneau du Rhin cicuit in france.

 

The ZX was not very happy on this small, tight and twisty track but at least the Remus sports exhaust sounds good.

You did'nt seem to have any trouble keeping up, the Porsche did'nt seem to pull ahead at all :confused:

You were on his arse most the time. Looks like you out braked him a lot too :dance:

I was at (and sometimes over) the limit trying to defend the Z's honour! :)

 

My main criticisms of the ZX as a track car are:

 

1. The weight, and related to this,

 

2. The brakes. The Porterfields work well, but there is inadequate cooling – on a tight and twisty circuit at least. Great for road use though.

 

3. The lack of traction. Front-engined, rwd means you can't get back on the power through an apex as early as you can in a mid-engined or rear-engined car. Makes it great for drifting, but that's not the quickest way to go round corners on a track, of course.

 

It was certainly fun to track it for once though. I would recommend it as a way to learn more about your car :)
