Guys it as cold as witches tit here this morning and I took the Z on the school run  what i heard all the way there and back was that horrible graunching from the front paasenger side suspension. In order to solve this problem which has been around for a while, (both sides on and off mostly on cold mornings), My car has been fully re-bushed, got brand new upper control arms and new dampers all round. :headvswal

I just cannot think what the F£*% it is that is still squeaking. I push down on the wing and it squeaks sounds 10X worse inthe car. Now getting paranoid about tension rods shearing off the lower control arms etc. (mind going everywhere). I get a shimmy under heavy braking too that feels like warped discs but they are new too. Is it my control arms?

Anyone out there who has had or solved this or even shares the same symptoms please post. I wanna sort this before I go to the ring. On a lighter note my new custom exhaust released 45 extra pony's  :D :D :D

yeah - i fitted adjustable upper arms & tension rods with bearings instead of bushes. that cured it :)

chris, eliminate each bush one by one:

spray some wd40 and go round the block, still squeaking? spray the next bush etc till the noise stops, once you know which one it is get plenty of grease in there.

i'll bet its the tension rod bush which hasnt been greased thoroughly on the inside, same as mine, but i have rose jointed adjustable rods so may not be the same

It MUST be the tension rod bush because I got new adjustable upper control arms. The day has warmed up now and no noise so I'm gonna grease those suckers up and get some rose jointed ones before I go to the Ring. :nana2:

That's kinda good to hear. My suspension has been sqeaking recently and I was getting worried!

If you've got solid upper adjustable control arms you MUST fit solid lower tension rods.

I didn't at first, lots of squeaking from time to time.

Removed to check them and one had spilt, not good.

On usa web sites some state lower must be fitted with upper.

IMO a must, no squeaking since and peace of mind.

I have the same complaint, will greasing up the tension rod bush stop the shimmying from the brakes though or should i be looking for new discs

Where can I get solid tension rods from and how do you fit them as aren't the std ones rivetted on?

Chris

hi chirs the standard tension rods are not riveted on! they are bolted on,if you go for rose jointed you eliminate the need for a re-bush of the tension rods,as this is a 1piece part!

I know this might sound funny, but I had an anoying squeak that seemed to be coming from my front drivers side suspension. Every time I pressed down on the wing it squeaked. I upgraded the shocks anyway, and had the arms stripped to get rid but still the squeak. It turned out to be the bloody bonet hinges. I know this is a problem on alot of Zeds. Worth having a really close listen to them, or the catch at the front.

Wow i need to check that out!

I have had new shocks, upper control arms, discs pads, suspension bushes and about to do tension rods. If its the bloody bonnet hinges I'll be relieved and gutted in equal measure................ :)

Stuff needed doing anyway. I get a shimmy and steering wheel wobble under braking at a certain speed range which most say is warped discs but they are brand new so all roads currently leading to tension rods..........

If this affects a lot of zeds why no definitive cure found yet. Are we all driving round with squeaky cars???????? LOL
